Ive been looking forward to this opening,.does anyone know what makes this store energy efficient ,or a website that describes this technology,

I am also looking forward to the opening. I'm not sure what they are trying as far as being energy efficient. Of course I'm sure as stated the newer coolers etc. are more efficient that the older ones.

Snaz If you get the Jefferson County Journal todays paper explained a little better how the store is going to be more energy efficient. I also like the fact that they have their own generator big enough to take care of all the coolers should the power go out. |

That was an interesting article. I think it is interesting that the lights will go off in certain areas automatically if no one is in the areas. Great Idea.

Well this older person didn't go. In fact I haven't been there yet. I don't really like it when things are so crowded you cannot really move around. LOL kinda like the day after Thanksgiving sales. Not worth the hassle. Might make it over tomorrow.
What kind of free stuff were they handing out? |

I was able to visit last night and all I can say is it is about time , what a wonderful store , what they have to offer is unlike any other Jeff county store that I have been too,Its very pleasing ,if you are into that sort of thing ,you know , food

I predict it will not hurt Shop n Save, their problem will be the super wally world. Most folks know it cost more to shop at Dierbergs . Wait till they get a load of the 8.850 sales tax. I will continue to shop in Fenton. I did not agree with the I'll take and you will like it attitude.

Good point. However, Home Depot, Target and Schnucks off of Vogel did not use ED and do not have the additional sales tax. Maybe you might consider shopping there.

1 As I have in the past I will continue to do the majority of my shopping in Arnold. With the price of gas it would not pay me to travel to Fenton, Festus or South County. The new Dierbergs and Lowes is just another plus. If I need something from a larger store like Sears, Macy's, Dillards, Penny's etc. then I will have to travel to So. County because sadly Arnold doesn't any of these types of stores to chose from and neither does Fenton. Allen like all of us you are free to shop and spend your money where you want. We all have free choice. |

1 Home Depot, Target and Schnucks are in Arnold. However, they will not be putting money in the developer's pockets when you shop there because they do not have the increased sales tax. Just another option. Allen, I was just providing other local options that did not use ED and do not have the additional sales tax. They are not part of the "I'll take and you'll like it" attitude. It all used to be farm land and was sold. I was not telling you where to shop. Like Shirley said, you are free to shop where you want as it is a free world. |
|
Shirley your right I may be free to shop but there were many in the triangle that did not get a free choice. The council teamed up with a developer and took from their own citizens. I will not support that type of behavior. They might be giving away free milk and bread up there for all I know. That mound of dirt around that dentist is like a pickett line for me and reminds me each time I drive by why I will not shop there.

CC, I do some of my shopping at Home Depot, Target and Schnucks on Vogel but the truth is that Lowes handles some items that Home Depot doesn't. I also shop at Target and Kohl's and Wal-Mart but the truth is there are times when I want better quality in clothes so I go to South County. I also checked out the new Dierbergs and I like what I see there. I may not do all my grocery shopping there but I'm certain I will do some. We have also been to the new Rise and Dine Restraunt next to Dierbergs and found the food to be good but a little more expensive than Karen's was or Bob Evans is. So as in the past I'll just keep spreading my money around to all the stores in Arnold. That's what is great about living in America we can pick and chose where we want to shop. |

Allen, I may not agree with the way the city took the property using ED but most of the people in that area sold their homes willingly. The dentist is one of a couple who didn't. I also do not agree with what I see going on around his office.(The large pile of dirt.) I believe they should leave the dentist alone and not make things harder for him. It is uncalled for but who is to blame is it the city or the builders? |

OR the Dentist? He knew that area was going to be under development. He knew that Major Construction was going to change the entire look of the area and he decided he wanted to remain.
Now, until the construction is finished, it is going to look like a construction zone. And the construction can not be finished until the issue is through the courts and it is decided. If the courts decide he can stay, it will be finished one way, if the courts decides he goes, it will be finished another. However, until it is decided, it can not be finished. |

Dave, now you are trying to blame Homer for staying there? It seems that he WAS THERE FIRST! He is NOT VIOLATING any laws or ordinances. There is NO reason for the dirt to be piled up that high around his office. There is an ordinance on the books that specifically says that piles cannot exceed a 3:1 vertical slope and any delay over three months requires that it be revegetated. Look it up in the ordinance as I don't have time to post it right now. I recall something akin piles of dirt having to be leveled daily, but can no longer find that.

I don't know about any ordinances involving the piles of dirt. I do believe however that it was NOT necessary for the builders to pile the dirt up around his office completely hiding it from the people. I'm sure it could have been piled elsewhere or removed.
While I cannot swear to it I would say the dirt was piled there delibertly to hide his office from from the public. |

Why would they remove this dirt. I believe there is an intention to use that dirt in that area shortly. To remove this dirt off of what is currently the developers property, to bring it back in just a few weeks would be costly.
The Dr. made a decision to stay in the middle of a construction zone, when he knew construction would be taking place on three sides of his lot. While I agree he has a right to fight this fight and try to keep his office, I also agree that the developer has a right to develop his lot, even if that means working on three sides of the dentist and keeping construction equipment and materials on the property druing the development. |
