Glenn Beck talks about the recent ED grab in New York City for the Nets new stadium. The things he talks about echo things that were discussed here in Arnold for the triangle development known as Arnold Commons. It made me wonder what team everybody here was playing on. Team Constitution or Team "progress". Team "Progress" loves to tell you that we need things like shopping centers to boost the tax revenue that is being sucked away by other cities. Or that we need cameras on poles because it increases safety. Or that smoking is bad so we need to tell businesses what they can and can't do. For your safety and health of course. Funny, when I look at the alumni of Team Constitution (Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Lincoln, etc.) they really didn't talk much about what government should DO for you. They did talk an awful lot about what government should not be allowed to do to you.
So we have to decide which side of the fence you are going to be on. To me, when you apply Team Constitution's principles, things work pretty well. Oh sure, everybody doesn't have a mini-mansion, two cars and a plasma TV. But what they do have is a lot of freedoms. Of course when you have freedom and the opportunity to one day own those things if you work hard at it. But when you apply the principles of Team "Progress", it seems to me all you get is higher taxes, more restrictions to your rights, a giant mound of dirt outside your front door, and occasionally a wrecking ball in your front yard. It's OK though if you join Team "Progress" we may take your house or business, but we'll build you a brand new one somewhere else. Because we want you in Arnold, just not where you wanted to be or have lived or worked for a number of years. The greater good needs your location on Earth because everybody will benefit from our 4th grocery store and 5th hardware store in town, right?
It makes me sick to think that the people who elected to represent me and my interests don't subscribe to Team Constitution or it's principles. That men like Crisler, Moritz, Amato, Powell and others think it's OK to run a citizen of Arnold through the ringer for the "greater good". Or that giving tax abatements to a big corporation is really in the best interests of people. All the while getting campaign contributions from that same corporation. They think it's OK to take away my rights of due process to put a camera on a pole "to make me safer", even though the only thing between me and that Mack truck that ran the red light is air. Or that somehow stopping people from smoking in a resturaunt that I am in for 30 minutes will save my life. It's ludacris. Ask this question: Do the Amato's and Crislers of this town really care about you and your rights? Or do they care about the big political machine. The machine that is fueled by union money and special interest "in-kind" donations. Just like the residents that lived in the triangle, they may say one thing, but the truth is there is no room for you in the equation. So which team are you on? Team Constitution or Team "progress".
