Pat Reno is a great lady and hard worker. She doesn't receive much of the credit she deserves. Instead she is judged by the same citizens and merchants whom she supports. Loretta Goehring being one of them. And Mary Hostetter. They judge Pat Reno because of the condition of her home. They don't give any regard to how Ms. Reno dedicates her time to this town, along with dedicating so much time to the food pantry so others will not go without. All the while, Ms. Reno is going without...in order to help others. Shame on the Goehrings and Ms. Hostetter.Shame on all of you! Stop bitching at each other and get involved if you don’t like it. I get back to Kimmswick every now and then and the town has changed. Good or bad, is a matter of opinion. I grew up in Kimmswick from birth in 1960 to 2001 when my mother moved to Herculaneum after my grandmother died, and still have a couple cousins living there. My grandmother had lived there for over 50 years running a fish market. I remember Kimmswick as a child, teenager, and adult. Yes it changed; the town went from having outhouses, sewers running in the ditches, run down and vacant buildings and being the drop off point for unwanted dogs to having public sewers and water, local businesses and renovated homes or businesses. Yes, we complained about the tourists, especially when one would decide to have a picnic lunch on our front porch. Yes, it is a little difficult going back and seeing your childhood home or grandparent’s home converted to stores, but it beats them being tore down. But the town is a lot cleaner and safer than when I was a child.
No one is perfect, no one’s ideas or methods are going to be accepted by everyone. As far as Pat Reno, I have known her and her family a long time, did we always agree, probably not. But Mrs. Reno is one of the hardest working women I know and does not deserve the BS that has been posted in this forum.
What happened to Kimmswick?

Yes this topic needs to stay on top. The town of Kimmswick contains more bullies than I have ever seen in any of my life adventures. I was sickened when I read some of these comments in here....several of the comments coming from people I most definitely know, and shame on them for literally calling their neighbors names such as "idiots" and "witches". One resident in Kimmswick is very mentally ill. She is a life long resident of Kimmswick, her ancestors also lived in Kimmswick. She is a very sad lady who only wants peace in her neighborhood, living with her own illness, yet taking care of her physically disabled husband at the same time who is on a respirator. But when she has people coming online such as Loretta Goehring, calling this poor lady names such as a "WITCH"....that just tops it all. The Goehrings are the biggest trouble makers in that town. I can only hope that Hank Goehring is no longer alderman. Things really took a turn for the worse when he became alderman because he sways his votes based on what his wife, Loretta, wants. These are a couple of people that need to get a life, get out of that town, and let that town get back on it's feet.

Disgusted,
I think every town has people like the "Goehrings" that you are talking about. I have friends that live in Washington, Missouri, and that town is the same way. You have the people that run the town and then you have the innocent bystandards that get screwed over because of it. You have the people that are shunned because they aren't in the "clique" and even though they are the ones that are in the right, the "clique" will screw them over. |
You are very right. Every town has those kind of people and it's a shame what happens to the innocent who just want a good place to live. I would never want to be in the position, or known to be, the "bully" of a little town. Who in their right mind would want that label? I guess that means the "bullies" aren't IN their right mind to begin with. |
|
It's those kind of people, the ones who want to run the town or be in the "clique", who make small towns like that somewhat "scary" to visit anymore. |

To Disgusted. Yes be Thankful that you don't live in Kimmswick anymore alot has changed. Look how they and Windsor School destroyed Old St Josephs Church. Kimmswick isent as nice as it used to be a long time ago. When new ppl take over they think they can bully everyone and take over everything!

I grew up in Kimmswick. There was one shop on the corner and one shop selling jewelry. I thought it was a great place to grow up then and I am sure it still is. There was a great feeling of family. Kimmswick people are river town people. My experience is that river town people have a unstated motto. "this too shall pass". When all the outsiders go, and they will, things will get back to the way they should be. So hang in there folks and keep the faith.
