"We don't have any way of knowing anything about these people who have permits except that they have $15 and passed a fingerprint check," Johnson said. What more would you LIKE to know??? They are citizens who submitted to a background check to exercise their rights. Would you like some special assurance that they would meet with your personal approval? CCW permit holders are THE LAW ABIDING citizens who have actually OPENLY DECLARED their intention of carrying a weapon lawfully under THE SUPERVISION OF THE STATE.

When in doubt always defalut to freedom, that is what I did when the arguements started about this bill. I have no problem supporting it.

Background checks for gun permits are rigorous. These people are more than qualified to be armed in public. Now honest people can defend themselves in public the way homeowners can defend their families at home.

As an Illinois resident and a concealed carry licensee, I am authorized to carry in 31 states, including Georgia. Those of us with licenses (who necessarily have guns) are more than 300 times less likely to commit a crime of violence than non-license holders (who do not necessarily even have guns). This is based on data from Florida, a state where "shall-issue" has been the rule for 21 years. The travesty is that in Illinois, we uber-responsible licensees are not allowed to carry. We are falsely deemed a liability, a risk. But such a misinformed position defies evidence, and defies common sense. In some carry states, it's been shown that such laws reduce the level of violent crime. In others, there has been no measurable difference. In NO state has crime increased as a result of lawful carry. Illinois and Wisconsin remain the last true RIGHTS DENIED states. They have ignored and repelled these common sense gun laws for far too long, and have done so via misinformation, dishonesty, and hysteria. The data supporting carry are undeniable. Pass common sense gun laws in Illinois - pass concealed carry in Illinois. www.illinoiscarry.com

The article quoted: ""We don't have any way of knowing anything about these people who have permits except that they have $15 and passed a fingerprint check," Johnson said." Can anyone in Georgia validate this? Would anyone like to restate the FACTS? Johnson, you are twisting the requirements. The statement from the author is simply invalid.

Well, if they have been waiting for a law to be passed before they starting carrying, then chances are good that they are not a criminal.

Carl; You state the point very well, but miss the anti gun people's point. The really don't care that permit carriers are among the most law abiding. They only care that they are opposed to ANY form of carry, and as far as they are concerned, this is reason enough to deny you your right to do so. Way to go Sonny!!!!!!!!!! Lets do a study and see just how many violent criminals have gun permits.....I would like to see that. Most gun permit holders are law abiding citizens....I IKNOW I KNOW there are exceptions to every rule....Lets see the teenagers that do all the school shootings...lets see they are not old enough to even have a gun permit....How in the world can that even begin to figure into this argument....I dont think it does....Get over it people...we do have a constitutional right and because of the criminal set out there...you want to take our rights away....doesnt seem fair now does it....

It's not that I missed their point, but that their point is irrevevant because it's opinion-based, not evidence-based. The evidence for carry is overwhelming, and growing every day. Soon the pressure will be intense in WI and IL to pass common sense carry laws.
