From his first day at Morehouse College - the country's only institution of higher learning dedicated to the education of black men - Joshua Packwood has been a standout.

I would be curious to know more about his thinking when he was applying at different schools. Why did he choose this particular one? Did he specifically want to go to a black-majority campus? Was it close to home? Did they offer a degree or specialization that was unavailable elsewhere? Does he simply enjoy dating black women or men and figured he would have a better social life at this campus? Just curious, seems like the next question that wasn't asked.

The term Euro-American is as bad as the term African-American. Why can't we all just be Americans.

We will never begin to resolve race issues until we can.

I think a few hundred million white people would benefit greatly from living among nothing but black people for about 30 days.

Well, it shows that we can all learn from each other. Its a shame the world doesn't function this way, if it did we wouldn't have the problems we do now. Good Luck to Josh and the class of 2008! We need you all, you are our future. Good point BK Ray.

What does PTBW stand for? I am guessing BW is black woman; maybe P is Proud, but unsure what T stands for.

One of my Thai roommates went to a Black college before she went to the White one...she was just open minded.

I took some courses at a Black college and this is generally what I found about all the non Black students, except those there for a certain program or something.

Also, there are minority scholarships at many schools for non White students.

that's cute. I know of two white girls that went to Spelman College (HBCU for all females and black) and said the experience was something they would have never received in a white school even with a 20% black student body.

Packwood lived in Missouri. Morehouse U is in Atlanta, Ga. If you are black and want to major in engineering or economics and want to go to a good black (HBCU as these schools are called) school besides Howard U then naturally, you go to Morehouse U if you're a male.

His mom married and had half black/white children. He was naturally interested in exploring a part of him/his family that he couldn't get at an all white or majority white school.

Hahahaha! Usually people think I am a white woman but I have never been mistaken for a black woman, actually I am a white man(well about to be, I am 18, almost 19).
PTBW is Proud to be White and then I added Forever because of the bad rep I was getting on here from the troll also named Proud to be White(a racist). Don't worry though I love blacks as well as every one else, I intend to show America and the world what white pride truly is instead of this KKK image people get.

I agree, but white people for centuries have been reminding black people that they are BLACK before ever thinking that they are Americans. So after centuries of being reminded of this fact, NOW you're angry that blacks have accecpted this hyphenated label.

Oh yeah, there are quite a bit of Hindus that go to HBCUs. There are especially a lot at Howard U.

You'll find some Afro-Latinas that attend Spelman College.

And since most of these HBCUs want diversity on their campuses, there are increasingly non-black scholarships available to white students. some of these scholarships also go to other minorities such as Asians and Latinos.

Is being white an accomplishment of which one can be proud? Is it harder to be white than say, black? It does seem an odd and slightly racist phrase.

Yes being proud to be something other than white is more understandable becuase of the current context created in America where being white and especially being a white male is the path of least resistance as it werem since the farther you are from being a white male, the more resistance you will encounter, generally speaking. Of course all white is not the anglo ideal to which white people aspire (as much as one can have aspirations of that sort), which would lead to one's being proud of being in an un-anglo kind of way.

Did you need to take off the tight, cloth sheet off your ignorant head to post that comment?

Stereotypes are usually a road traveled by the ignorant who are too lazy to be enlightened.

If black people can be proud of being black then I can proud of being white, I have every right to be proud of where I came from too and what people of my background have done.
