Unfortunately, the officer is 'written off' as collateral damage, in a failed war that has been fought for over 70 years.
When enough innocent people die, the people will cry "Enough! Time for change."

As the national controversy over no-knock warrants continues, a case that goes to the heart of the debate is playing out in Bibb County Superior Court.

How many people would be alive if guns were not so freely available? I say this as someone who is a pretty good shot myself with a rifle but strongly opposes the lax controls on the possession of handguns.
|
American wouldn't even be a nation, if guns were not freely available, so I'm willing to allow most gun owner's (myself included) some slack. I really don't care if gangsta's make sport of shooting each each other. It's only a tragedy when an innocent bystander gets caught in the crossfire, so we learn to avoid the bad part of town. |

I think that No Knock Warrants give police officer to much power to enter a citizens home. I live in Franklin, Georgia Heard county the [police came to my home with a No Knock Warrant to make a search they said that had a arrest warrant but they did not provide one they did give us a No Knock Search Warrant they took a computer and left I am glad I was home because if I had not been the only one that would have been home would have been my BLIND mother and My sister 13year old daughter they was looking for my brother for computer forgery and printing checks. Was a No knock Warrant Necessary? do you know how long it would have taken us to get rid of a computer and Printer? I can not believe a Judge signed a warrant of this kind for for a fraud charge.

Dear John,
Most other countries have managed to hold their status as nations without the ludicrous macho posturing about the right to bear arms. However little I might shed tears about gangsters who kill each other, the problem is the psycho scum (often disturbed adolescents) who go out feeling they've had a bad day and just blast anyone they feel like (often other kids at school). Basically the murder rate would drop if there was proper gun control. I know it would be difficult because too many people feel their machismo being threatened by common sense. What's right is right, though, and eventually common sense always has to prevail. On the No Knock Warrants, they are certainly not something that should be used anywhere near as often as they are (often inappropriately). The trouble is, that war criminal Bill Clinton brought in a load of reactionary laws and now it's even worse under that crypto-Communist Bush! |

Police do have too much power and no knock warrants should be made illegal. Here is a news report on what happened in Atlanta,GA when police entered an elderly lady's home with a no knock warrant. She was murdered. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/27/atlanta.shoo...

No knock warrants are given so perps don't have time to arm themselves.
No knock warrants have been challenged all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. They are constitutional. The 92 year old woman in Atlanta was not killed because of a no knock search warrant. Yes, it was a no knock search warrant, but it took the cops over 2 minutes to get into her house, which is why she was able to get to her gun and use it against the cops. Even if this warrant had not been a "no knock" the cops would have broken down the burglar bar doors and gone in. The shooting would have taken place about one minute later than it did. The bottom line in that case is the cops lied and screwed up royally. It doesn't matter what kind of warrant the had, the outcome would have been the same. Departments already have systems in place to prevent these sorts of things from happening. The problem is in this case, the cops lied. |

Sometimes just because something is legal doesn't mean it's morally right.

Big Lin,
You know, Washington DC has very strict gun laws that are enforced harshly. They also have a murder rate that almost always leads the nations. Compare that to Kennesaw GA, where in the early 80's, home owners were required to own guns. The crime rate fell in half after that law passed. Our crime rate continues to be 1/4 of the national average. |

Even when a warrant is not authorized to be a "No Knock", chances are it will be and chances are the court will overlook and issue in the State's favor but if there are casualties then homeowners will be charged and prosecuted. Bottom line the goverment will do whatever they want to do and there's nothing do to about this issue. Is their definition of democracy

The real bottom line is these were criminals up to not good. They knew very well who they were shooting at.

Our Legislatures should outlaw this practice. There is no place for this in a free society. More LE and citizens will die all because they are afraid some dope will be flushed down the toilet. Is that worth flushing lives down the toilet?

Our legislatures should outlaw this. This should not be part of a free society. How many more LE and citizens need to die? All over preventing some dope being flushed down the toilet. Are lives being flushed down the toilet worth it?

I'm tired of people who know nothing about no knock warrants having such strong opinions on them. Until you've studied criminal justice and been on a few no-knocks, keep your uninformed opinions to yourself.

You are 100% correct. |
News flash for you, loser! If you're a wanted felon or dealing drugs, and the police have a no knock warrant signed by a judge, the cops most certainly can kick your door in during the middle of the night. People like you suck. You're all for a criminal society. |

Phantom, your right this guy is foolish, but I have some mixed feelings on these no knocks as well. If your in bed and your door comes down and your armed(I am speaking for myself) this seems like a very dangerous condition. Is there not a way to wait until the perp is coming in or out to snatch them up or serve a warrant? |
