Letters: NIMBY wins in Hatton Canyon

Residents of Carmel Hills and Carmel Knolls have once again succeeded in keeping Hatton Canyon from being used for the public good.

In response to the first letter to the editor about the "nimbys" in hatton canyon, more power to them!!!

NIMBY has become a pejorative term, to throw at anyone who is opposed to anything. What's wrong with wanting PEACE and QUIET around your home, the biggest investment most of us will ever make?

I agree with you "proud to be a nimby". When the local powers that be in my town decided to put a skateboard park across the street from my home with no supervision and day break to after dark hours, my neighbors and I fought against it to no avail. We warned them what would happen and. sure enough, everything we imagined came to fruition. From the older kids beating up on the younger kids, to fights in our street, graffiti, alcohol consumption, etc. The police finally had enough and demanded reduced hours of operation, supervision and a taller fence. We endured this war on our neighborhood for 3 years before the city caved in to the police.

The NIMBY haters are only haters UNTIL someone wants to put something in their backyard that THEY don't want.
