Emily Reilly will NOT get my vote. The woman needs to go back to the only thing she is good at: baking.

Bill Monning should be considered a perennial candidate and nothing more.

The fringe white "progressive" kooks still love him but what credibility do they have?

Bill Monning is by far the best representative that our area has a chance of having since before the daze of Farr....including myself, of course!...
That's why I dropped out of the race, support Bill, and have his campaign headquarters in Santa Cruz in my building @ 501 Mission Street.
Drop by there or billmonning .org and find out why.

....and since the days of our main man, LEON!
Damn those Clinton's for stealing him away from us!
But he got the job done, verdad?
Let's get him back in there, too!
He's not old enough to desert us yet, no way.
He's Italian....and he has Sylvia, too...or does she have him?
Better yet!

...sidenote:
I compliment Barbara Sprenger, graduate of the Panetta Institute's Politics Program @UCSCMB, on the fine campaign she is conducting...

.....stand by for mean politics to come soon! Emily is going broke in her business as a Bakery owner. I was raised and worked in the family business which was a local bakery since age five until a teenager. My father had "issues" as I found myself at a very tender age running the place along with my brothers...and if I/we can do that at a tender age and pull it off....perhaps I should be running for the Assembly and not Emily. Yet another example of those who can do, those who can't...try and get elected!!!!! She also did a marginal job as an elected official (is she still there?)...please..on all levels..is this the best we have?

Politics is entirely emotional for Emily...all here decision are post menopausal hot flashes that steer here toward anti-change decisions in her feverent desire to keep Santa Cruz in an image of here liking...an economic backwater.

Leadership is about leading. Emily waited to make a decision about the Coast Hotel until she knew which way the political wind was blowing. She should have used the "bully pulpit" of her office to lead the city into supporting the coast hotel. She should have loudly advocated for it. She should have stood up for what she knew was best for the city. We don't need someone in the Assembly right now who is afraid to make decisions and stick with them. We don't need someone who waits for polls to tell them what to think and what to support. Emily hems and haws about an issue until she knows what the politicos are going to do, and then she jumps on the bandwagon. Emily is a pleaser; she can’t stand anyone not liking her. She has no backbone.

Having worked on Measure K, I watched as Emily moved very quickly from being a supporter, at least when she met with us initially, to not even returning our calls even though she was a city councilmember/mayor and we were her constituents. Eventually she became part of the block of councilmembers who tried to stall our efforts, even after we'd gathered all our signatures and had a legitimate right to be on the ballot. Westside Lucy got it almost right. She's an "important" people pleaser and we weren't important enough. She also has no history that I'm aware of as a community activist. She was chosen to run for City Council by certain political interests. I do believe she is a nice person, though, and wish her all the best in private life.
To the contrary, Bill Monning comes from the grassroots and we know of him because of his actual good works as a community activist on the Central Coast. He's got my vote and I'm glad to see all the support he's getting.

Emily can't be trusted. She repeatedly assured the Friends of Lighthouse Field community that the City had consistently supported preserving our FOLF community and maintaining off-leash recreation at Lighthouse Field and Its Beach. Unfortunately, it wasn't so. In 2005, the State Parks General Counsel made a behind-closed-doors deal with Emily's city council to terminate off-leash recreation at Lighthouse Field and Its Beach. The City agreed to surrender its future right to operate Lighthouse Field State Beach with off-leash recreation in exchange for a contribution to the City's court costs, a discount on the exorbitant legal fees the anti-dog group's attorney was demanding from the City, and "political cover" for Emily's city council members because the deal would be controversial, according to the State Parks General Counsel Bradly Torgan in a sworn statement.

I'm so happy to see that i'm not the only anti-Emily Reilly person out there....we need to make sure she doesn't get into politics any further than she already is...hopefully she will go back to her kitchen where she belongs.

Emily's comment about her position on the minimum wage and how she "held out to try and bridge the gap" is a flat out lie. Let' s look at the facts.

When Measure G supporters announced their campaign to raise the minimum wage Emily stood with them at their press conference. In fact, here's her quote in the Sentinel from that press conference...

"I really welcome the new challenge as a business owner," said bakery owner Reilly, who strongly supports the initiative but has not raised wages for the handful of bakery workers who make less than $9.25. "I'll sit down with my senior management to look at possibly increasing prices or maybe there are other costs we can lower. We'll look at how we can do this and make it sustainable."

After catching heat from local business owners Emily publicly withdrew her support for the measure.

THEN, she hosted a totally disingenuous "community conversation" where both sides came together and accomplished nothing but posturing their various positions.

And Emily's flips are not limited to the Minimum Wage and Coast Hotel. Remember her public promise, reported in the Sentinel, to publicly admonish Tony Madrigal for his behavior only to rescind her position a few days earlier?

It's no surprise to anyone with a pulse why so many of Emily's "subjects" who have lived under her rule for the last 8 years are supporting Monning.

I love it. The chickens are coming home!

I think the reason Emily changed her mind about admonishing Tony Madrigal, had everything to do with a phone call she received reminding her she had to be taken to Small Claims Court for attempting to steal the use of copy written recipes some years ago

and by comparison to what Tony supposedly did, how bad is that - stealing from an artist

Check it out Superior Court of CA, County of SC
6/10/03 Case # SS030162

If you read the document, you will see that the defendant, Emily Reily had to give up the right to produce for commercial gain any recipe covered by a certain copy right as well as to some other recipes belonging to the plaintiff

and thats why I think Emily backed off from Tony thing, because she knew she would be exposed as a thief if she went forward

How bad is that?

What do you think?
