Arlington has been infested with Gangs and it doesnt look like its getting any better. I stay in South Arlington of Green Oaks and Matlock and I witness a drive by shooting in the broad day light. I moved from North Arlington near the Washington Area because thats what always happen over there now these gangs are deep in South Arlington increasing the crime rate. Does any one else see this Gang Violence in Arlington headed down the wrong road???

Arlington is a huge septic tank. They like all the gangs, poor, subsidized and entitled people since they get credits and funding from the government.

I actually work in the North area you are talking about in Arlington... and it does seem that it is getting worse. The sad part is, the police can't do anything about these types of problems UNTIL the gangs actually do something to someone and/or something...and most of the time they don't get caught. I wonder how many people witness things and don't actually say anything for fear they will be hurt as well. It is a sad sad world we live in.....and all of us are responsible for allowing it... *sighs*

I just Moved from North Arlington off Collins and Washington. That is just a ghetto, anywhere the police is at all the time is the ghetto. their numerous of shootings and Gang fights and drugs back there. I currently stay in South Arlington now off Sublett and it seems like the same thing is over there. Its not as bad but i see the gang members hanging out and I hear the cop sirens late at night, I was trying to stay close because I have family in Arlington but I am fixing to relocate to another Surburb because Arlington is not a Surburb anymore.

Arlington is a okay city its not bad as yall are making it seem. North Arlington has it rough area like of course the Washington Area its numerous housing apartments back there. Collins and Washington is bad but what about Cooper and Washington. Thats a very nice neighborhood back there no gang violence, drugs or anything. Then in East Arlington you have the bad parts such as Sherry St., Arkansas, East Park Row, Pioneer Parkway, Arbook, but there are plenty of nice quiet neighborhoods in East Arlington. The school zone is not good because of Sam Houston but thats about it. South Arlington is the new part of Arlington the houses are very new and nice you will amazed of how good those houses look off Sublett and Matlock and these people are saying thats a bad area. Even the apartments over there are very nice looking. As far as West Arlington, thats the rich part of the city. Its the best side, No high crime rate(No Gangs, Drugs) none of that. I think Arlington crime is overall since the streets gave it a nickname "AggTown", Arlington is not a ghetto city. you cant compare Arlington Gang Members up against the Dallas or Fort Worth Gang Members.

The apartments off Sublett and Matlock (between Matlock and Cooper actually) are all (3) 100% low-income govt-funded. The 2 "Luxury Garden Apartment" complexes started being built and marketed as "nice" but at the last minute the developer threatened to file bankruptcy if the city did not allow it to be reclassified as Section-8, which they did. I used to live in the neighborhood directly to the south of there and crime had increased roughly 400% as of April 07. Don't say it's not bad if you don't live there. Things aren't always as they seem (unfortunately).

These sreets are not safe. North Arlington And East Arlington are the worst but lately the deep South Side of Arlington (Matlock-Sublett) has gotten bad. Its these "Clicks". The Sublett and Matlock area is ranned by the Click that made Agg Town fights and they have a lot of rivals so its a bunch of crime back there, Especially shootings. I think that in the upcoming years Arlington will surpass Fort Worth Crime Rate because These Young Thugs is killing each other over Clicks. I watch the news and trys to help Arlington and cover up all the Gang Related Homicides and shootings like they wasnt Gang related. The Sam Houston area(Sam-Side) is what the youngsters call it is the blood territory and they are known for starting trouble. North Arlingtons (Washington area) is Slump now. Its so many Gang Members back there its a shame. its like a little Woodhaven now. The (Sublett Matlock Area) in Far South Arlington is a bad area like I said above. The (Cooper Crossings area) of Pak Row and Cooper in Central South Arlington near Arlington High School is a very bad drug gang infested neighborhood. Also the neighborhood north of the police station is not a good neighborhood either.

Okay people, wake up! Everywhere you going there is going to violence. Stop pointing the fingers at this side or that side of Arlington. Get real! You go to Sam Houston HS there will threats of violence and you go to Higland Park HS there will be threats of violence also. You can not live your life moving here or moving there because no matter where you go amd mo matter how safe you think one city may be, there will be DANGER! In regards to Sam Houston "sam side" being full of gangs, that is a lie. You can not continue to sweep other school's problems underneath the rug and blame it all on Sam Houston. Sam Houston HS is not a violent place to be, you can walk the halls safely. You will be greeted with professional staff and happy students. The students and faculty are loving people who want to get through life, like anyone else. Please do not categorize Sam Houston as THE gangster school because there are gangsters at Lamar HS, as well as Martin HS.

I have lived in Arlington a long time (I moved here in 1968, when I was 3)
I grew up in close to Bowen and I-20. Very nice place. Crime?? Whats that? I got married, and we bought a house close to New York And Arbrook. Its was a nice friendly place UNTIL the last 5 years. APARTMENTS SUCK!! They are ALL GHETTOS. And after the New Orleans kids moved in...It was really bad. I carried my gun just to walk the dog. Those little bastard SOB's should have been left on those roofs, let them drown and/or SHOT!! Arlington will get better, the Police need to get after it and arrest the thugs. Jerry World and the Bowl are coming.I now live in West Central Arlington. Arlington is still a good place to live. Watch out thugs, you NEVER KNOW who is armed.

This is the way of the world. Higher income areas, are going to have less crime, better schools, and people with higher standards, and morals. Lower income areas, are going to have the opposite. Mind you, there are alot of good kids, and good people in those lower income areas, I'm not including EVERYONE, but I feel the majority is just that way. Yes you are right, there will always be crime, but if I have the means to live in an area where the overall census has a much higher average income, and the houses are not losing value, and the crime rate is lower, then what do you label me? Am I wrong for wanting to expose my children, and myself to bigger, and better things? I think the majority of the people that post here, live, or lived in Arlington, and it's just what we see. If you don't beleive me, go to the Parks Mall on a Friday or Saturday evening, and tell me what you see. Those are the same people that are near Matlock, and Sublett. I got out, and you should too.

no, I work in Irving, and obviously you don't get out much. What if I lived in Valley Ranch? Hackberry Creek? Both of these are in Irving. Yeah, I would definitly call that a huge step up from south Arlington. I still live in Arlington, but in a much nicer area. Since I live in Arlington, the Parks Mall is all I know, it's where I live, I could care less about other Malls, my daughter goes to B-Day parties @ Build a Bear Workshop at the Parks, and it's rediculous when I walk through there, and see all of those idiots, and it's not just boys, even my 7 year old daughter sees some of those teenage girls dressed like hookers walking through there, and says, "daddy she looks rediculous, I would never wear anything like that". I don't want my daughter exposed to that. It's just a matter of time before something really bad happens up there, and innocent people get caught in the middle.

I generally don't care too much about gangs as they are usually just killing each other and not specifically targetting innocent bystanders. However, I take martial arts classes and have a concealed handgun license. So hopefully if the time ever comes, I'll be able to defend myself and my family.

Ignorance is what breeds crime, not income or location. I was born and raised here and was exposed to very little crime growing up. I have lived in the ghetto and idiot thugs are breeding like cockroaches because of a lack of parenting but Arlington is an overall good city.

GANGS AND CRIME IS EVERYWHERE NO1 KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN EVERY HOUR OF THE DAY OR MIN.
IN SCHOOL WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HOW SILLY SOME OF YOU SOUND ON YOUR COMMENTS.
IT'S NOT ABOUT COLOR OR RACE'S, GANGS COME FROM PEOPLE WANTING TO BE ACCEPTED, AND HOW CAN WE BE ACCEPTED WHEN ALL OF YOU ARE DOWNING US AND TELLING US THAT WE ARE NOTHING AND NEVER WILL BE.
OKAY SO JUST THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WROTE HERE FOR A MIN. AND SEE WHY WE REALLY HAVE VIOLENTS

you're laughing at us?

"Gangs and crime is everywhere"?
"See why we really have violents"?

We are always "downing" you? I find that when someone is on your ass about something, you usually deserve it. I find it hard that anyone would go out of their way to "dwon" someone for no reason. Respect yourself, each other, and everything around you, and act respectful, and you, in turn, will be respected.

"Just move to where the demographics show a low percentage of blacks and you will be okay."

This is how racism starts. I'm an African American student who was raised in the Arlington area. I never joined any gangs. I graduated top of my class and now attend an Ivy League school. If parents would just pay attention to what their children are doing and put their foot down then there would be all these problems.

Arlington is not the "hood" or the "ghetto"....it's suburbia gone wrong and we need to fix things before it gets worse. Who are we to let a bunch of teenagers rule our lives and our city. We need to put our foot down, get strict with these kids and take back our city. These are not just the teenages in the next neighboorhood. These are the kids that live next door to you. These are your very own children. Before jumping around and pointing fingers, make sure that you make sure first that your own children aren't the ones contributing to this mess in the first place.

I don't excatly live in Texas anymore but I do follow the news of what is going on in my hometown. It saddens me that when I go home to visit, I feel safer on the streets of Boston. Arlington needs to band together, stop just complaining about things and actually stand up and take action. As Walt Disney said, "The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing." Stop putting these kids down and let them know that if they really focus, there can be a great future in front of them. It is a aim that is very reachable. Other kids from Arlington have made it big and they can too.

Gang members claiming a gang is formed for the purpose of acceptance. What a wonderful concept. I guess spraying graffiti on private property and gunning down innocent victims are other forms of acceptance. When was the last time any of us heard of a gang that benefited the community? I would imagine, not anytime soon, we will see a gang behind a McDonalds washing cars to raise money for their cause. No, their source of income will come from their victims. I'm sure there are non-violent gangs out there that like to spend their day skateboarding and playing baseball. The gang members names are Spanky and Buckwheat. I would agree with Kela that it is not about race. And, Kela, it is not entirely about being accepted. If your self-esteem is that low, then join a gang, commit a crime and the tax payers will gladly accept you into the criminal justice system. And then you will have a whole lot of new people ready to accept you. Gangs will never go away. And sadly, people like Kela will absorb the false sense of security a gang will provide. Good luck Kela! Hopefully we will read in the paper what good you have done in your life and not how it was cut short in the obituary.
