And I've seen artistic full-frontally naked photos of California's Governor and they haven't recalled HIM (nor should they).

This sounds like sexism to me - plain and simple.

Oregon vs California.. I think that says it all..

Still a stupid reason to remove someone from office.

I suppose if you run for office, it may be a good idea to TAKE EMBARASSING PICTURES OF THE INTERNET!

You can also hope your ex really destroyed those polaroid instant pictures and/or digital photos you took in Cancun Mexico. You remember, the threesome pictures? Oh, too much information there.

Much of this story is about local politics - the photo flap is mainly an excuse for locals who disagree with her policies.

She did nothing wrong and should not have had to endure this nonsense.

I don't want to pick too much on Governor Schwarzenegger. The naked photo of him that I saw was perfectly tasteful - and I never before heard anyone claim that he had ever been involved with actual pornography.

And I do agree with what one other poster here said - that is, I think the Mayor's photos became a weapon that her political opponents were cynically able to use against her.

Its funny how much violence, blood, and fart humor is fine on tv but a tasteful nude of woman, perish the thought!

With papparazi, 24-hour news, internet... If you are going to run for office, you are going to be investigated. Before they file, they'd better clean up any dirty laundry.

Honestly, I don't know how ANYBODY wants to run for office. All the stuff that goes with public life to me is not worth it.

Agreed. But it's a sad commentary on the times we live in.

The good folk just don't bother to run anymore which is why we have the candidates and elected officials we do. Sigh.

I just had a funny thought TX.

I thought "TX and me are in this forum right now hiding from those crazed ruffians Anton and Kurt".

It was a silly thought because your most recent post is already an hour old, so in no sense are you really still "here".

This one, I'm not so sure. Certainly the underwear thing wasn't wrong. I recall thinking some of her policies might be questionable as outlined when the original story came out.

Want to take any bets that without the picture, there would have been more than enough apathy to keep her in office?

They did the national campaign smear thing on a local level.

I'll be praying to the Lord tonight, asking him not to let Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley see your post.

No, I wouldn't take that bet. From what I remember reading, there *might* have been enough to recall her anyway. But the whole picture smear campaign pretty much made it a slam dunk.

Nothing like appealing to puritanical sensibilities to influence politics.
