You must be one of those shadey ones. Hit your sore point. No stolen goods for you.<quoted text>
Speaking of ignorance, you couldn't be MORE ignorant, dumbass. Actually there are MANY respectable scrap dealers who do exactly that. Unfortunately, it's the very few shady ones they go to.
As usual, you're commenting because you're an idiot with no life and love showing everyone how stupid you are. Where are the carts, Wal-Mart Greeter? Get off the net in the electronics department and back to work, troll.

"...she replaced the catalytic converters on two cars at a cost of more than $200 each."
Wow! Expensive, huh? NOT! The dual cat converter on my 2003 Honda Civic hybrid failed at about 85,000 miles, and Honda was nice enough to replace them for free - barely out of warranty. Now at 175,000 miles, and they have failed again! A device which should last 200,000 miles or more is failing after 60,000 - 90,000 miles on a regular basis, from what I've read. Guess how much Honda wants to replace the catalytic converter this time? Have a guess? It's not $200. Not $300. Not $500. The price for a cat converter replacement on a Honda Civic Hybrid is $2400! Talk about a hidden cost of ownership. Beware, folks. |

My previous car, a 2001 Buick Regal, had its cat con fail at about 110,000 miles. It simply collapsed internally. Due to a equipment bulletin I received a few years back from GM, it was replaced for free. As for the metal thieves, it's the "new goldrush." 21st century urban miners. Strange that metals are almost worth more than currency anymore. |
APD nor any other department cannot post an officer at every car dealership in the city or any other business for that matter. Business owners must do their part. |

Pleading ignorance works in City Hall. Leading by example in our fair city. I NEVER had sex with that woman! Err, I mean, converters in my junkyard. Good ol' Crackron, USA. If'n only the thieves put that much effort into a real job. |

Is there any way to find out if these types of crimes,(siding, plumbing, landscape lighting, aluminum bleacher thefts, etc.) have increase since Akron has gone to the enclosed "wheel-it-to-the-curb " trash and weekly recycle bins?

A barbwire contraption placed underneath your vehicle would keep the hoodies away. Attach barbwire to a plank of plywood. Secure the plywood beneath vehicle (ie, roll tires over edge to secure).
Make those bastards bleed. Just don't forget about it in the morning! |

I use the scrap dealer in Barberton that those crooks who stole the lights in Akron tried to use. They scan my license everytime I turn in scrap since it's usually over $50.00. I believe that they are trying to do business as honestly as they can but the last time I was there someone had sold as scrap 12 boxes of brand new, still in the box, electrical wire,(12-3 Romex). Now they seem to be honest folks but lets be honest.. who scraps out 12 boxes of brand new electric wire?!? Hell even I know that the wire was probably stolen from a contractor's job site!

Thanks. And now I realize that the $2400 is just for the cat converter. More fees for diagnostics, and adding taxes takes it up to the $3000 mark! This is something which Stow High failed to teach me in CIVICS class! You don't suppose that these thieves (the guys on the street, not the ones over at the Honda dealership) can read, do you? I don't want them stealing my cat and selling it to the local junkyard, thinking that they can make a fortune on Honda Civic Hybrid cat converters! Uh oh. Too late. Already clicked the "Post Comment" button...:-( |

I went for an oil change this past weekend and had the codes reset. CEL is still off after 500+ miles!
So, Honda-san, IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE CATS OR NOT??? Since the computer evidently scans for problems every 10 miles, and my cats are bad and need to be replaced at a cost of $1500-$3000, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT should now be illuminated! As for the emissions testing people, why in the world are you merely reading the computer codes? You are trusting computers which have proven to be DEFECTIVE in reporting errors. In doing so, you are forcing the public to spend thousands to replace cat converters which are NOT defective in order to pass their annual inspections and receive their new sticker! Where's the tailpipe test? Why are you not hooking-up and analyzing the exhaust itself? I think a lawsuit should be filed, to compensate all of us who have been forced to replace perfectly functional cat converters in order to pass inspections. |
