I really feel for the people in towns like Palatine. Cook county is squeezing them the hardest.
As taxes spiral out of control due to governmental waste and the inability to do the work for the people, smart consumers will hop over to lake county to save some big money.
Buying a new plasma for $2000?
In Cook County, that will be $2200.
In Lake County, that same TV costs $2140. How much gas do you have to burn with that extra $60? Even if you pay $3.50 a gallon, you get 17 gallons for the cost of one or two for the extra travel.
Wave goodbye to the busy holiday seasons, where shoppers flock to spend their money on Michigan avenue. Depending on what you plan on spending, there may no longer be a reason to actually buy anything of value in the actual city......
Perhaps instead of electing the same democrats who continually raise taxes to overcome their own silly fancies, the people of Chicago and Cook County should elect people on their merits, not their last names, race, or duration as a "representative" of the people.
Todd Stroger is as qualified to run the county as my dog, assuming my dog's last name was Stroger. The people who attend his meetings are dim witted but well meaning nutjobs who spend time making french delicacies illegal rather than actually, try to stay with me here, improving the city. I think it's time to let our well-paid but ineffective alderman know that they no longer can have their job for life. They should think that if they do a bad job, they get elected out. Um, anyone know how to get elected as an alderman? Me neither.
Mayor Daley, while a nice gentleman, is a rather silly man with reasonable management skills. It is time for Chicagoan's to stand up and elect a mayor with some brains, some honesty, some drive, and some actual skills to make Chicago a better place. It's sort of cute that our Mayor spent time this past year trying to make Chicago out to be an olympic city, especially as our public transportation infrastructure was failing, underfunded, and staffed by people with the motivation of a flu-ridden lemur. Gee, Mayor Daley, how'd you sell that? By bragging about your corrupt parking policies, complete with predatory city towing? Anyone notice that parking meters got jumbled up a few months ago? This city can't handle an olympic village. We still have far too much violence, a trasnportation system that is on the brink of crumbling, and what will the french team eat when they come? With Foie Gras off the menu, they'll never quite feel at home...
Or, you know.... We could always raise taxes to 11% in a few years if that's better for you....

We are Palatine residents and are planning on moving to Lake county in May. But this is the best idea I have heard in ages. Cook county is so corrupt, so expensive to live in. It would be great if we could be our own county!!

Why should affluent people have to pay for all of strogers friends to have jobs? And cook county hospital and all of the other freebies that the county gives out to the poor. I think all of the northwest suburbs should create their own county! Lets do it!!!!!

How can we show support for this? How can we put our names on "the" list? I cannot tell you how much the mere prospect of this excites me!

YES...go, good riddance! Palatine is one of those suburbs that is never satisfied. They annexed very large portions of unincorporated Cook County and then declared that it may have been a mistake. They wanted the population so that they would receive federal funds after a census year. They didn't think it through and were unhappy with increased public safety and public works costs. Now that they don't like the taxes the village leaders want to secede...GO! Don't talk about it, just do it!

Thanks, Todd Stroger staffer, but your claim is unfounded and ridiculous....
They are never satisfied? Could that be because they don't get a fair shake? That town is ON THE LINE between cook and lake county. As such, residents can save money by NOT spending money in Palatine and instead crossing the damn street.
I'd like to see you try to run a business in Palatine and see how tough it is.
Guess what? I live in the city. The sales tax sucks.
We give free healthcare to illegal immigrants, which sucks the budget dry every year. Chicago is a sanctuary city and Cook County is a sanctuary county, directly, openly, and notoriously violating federal law.
I hope the feds stop funding sanctuary cities, causing havoc in Cook county and forcing a regime change to a more conservative, law abiding government that seeks to limit government spending, reduce government waste, and actually balance the budget while improving services....
Or, we can do it your way and let cities leave the county. That's a great plan. Let's let whatever towns we want leave cook county and allow lake county to grow and swell and develop economically while Cook county goes straight to hell...
Good plan.
Putz.

Cook county government has not changed since the first Daley was in office. With all the money they collect in taxes and fees one has to wonder where all this money goes. Around election time they tout holding the line and shortly after were in a fiscal crisis. Most people in the entire nation can't say they have ever seen as much corruption in cook county and chicago as when the Mob ruled here. I'm not so sure the mob ever left. Great job Democrats!!!

I hope Palatine and others surrounding counties succeed in there plans. Toddler Stroker needs to go. Alot of people I know are already doing there shopping in Will County as well as other Counties when I get off work in Joliet I go to Aldis and get the same basket full of stuff for $23 cheaper when I am going to buy a big ticket items I go to other counties same for my gas and Home improvement projects as well. I think the big box retailers of Cook County should stand up against Toddler and his regime and fight. Maybe Toddler can create a position for 6 figures and give it to a friend or family memeber to study how much business is going to be lost.

I hope Schaumberg, Arlington Heights, Des Plains, Elk Grove, Bloomingdale, Streamwood, Hoffman Estates, Bartlett, Elgin, South Barington, Barington all jump on board. Something has to stop these lunatics running Cook County.

I think Chicago should be Cook County nothing else. It seems to have all the money problems(i.e. CTA,Corruption, etc.). Or let the CTA stand alone like the rest of us. Most services I know of make money or close their doors. If I can't pay my car insurance who do I go to for a tax increse to cover my budget?

It does not seem so long ago that the western most six townships in northwest Cook County (Wheeling, Palatine, Barrington, Hanover, Schaumburg, and Elk Grove) were threatening to do the same thing, even with the same county name-Lincoln.

I am all for a plan to have suburbs secede from Cook County. For example, why should we in the suburbs have to pay for the billion dollar hospital that little Stroger's daddy built and named after himself. The county owned roads out here are terrible, pot holes the size of bomb craters, where are the services we are paying for? To all you people chomping at the bit to hold the Olympics in Chicago, if you think taxes are bad now, you ain't seen nothin yet.

I refuse to buy gas, cigarettes, or anything for that matter in Cook County. I take a 5 minutes trip across the border into Lake County to buy everything I need. With this tax hike, I think more people will be willing to take that extra few minutes out of their day to cross the border. I saw that a new Whole Foods is being built 3 miles down Rand Rd. from the Whole Foods that has been in Palatine for years. What is going to happen when people choose to go to the other Whole Foods because they save a few dollars? There goes a major source of retail in Palatine.

Why doesn't the county just quit spending money as if it's water. We all have to stay in our budget, and why should the tax payers have to pay for the government workers their retirement fund. We pay for our own.....
