In Atkins,AR today 5 FEB. 2008. A large TORNADO crossed the Arkansas River passing south of pottsville and hit the N.Shore RD.south of Atkins AR.,wiping away houses and virtualy all trailers at the Lucky Landing area of Lake Atkins. Then proceiding NNE exploding a trailer belonging to MS. Barbara Briggs and and a large house on Ethel Place, belonging to Jim and Peggy (last name Unkown). Neather of the occupants of these homes were home at the time. I had to cross five downed large Oak trees to access Ethel Place.
Other houses were not as lucky. The un-verified comments were that a woman and young girl were killed on weir RD. APPROX. 250 yards from the houses on Ethel Place. There was much damage and many ambulances dispached to the Bells Chaple area. Number of deaths and injuries are unknown. Tornado crossed Weir Road heading NNE and crossed US. Hiway 64 1/12 miles East of Atkins. Utility poles and hot wires were down as far as I could see heading East on US. HWY. 64.
The TORNADO crossed US. 64 APPROX. 3 miles East of Atkins, AR . I was told it hit the Union Grove Church one mile North of US.64 HWY.This is a voteing place and was occupied at the time.
That is all I have see seen (much damage )
May God Bless

Cher wrote: can anyone tell me about the weather in FOX AR.? Tornados,Rain,Snow, The heat/Cold,Etc...? we just bought a vacation home and we was wondering what to expect.I heard that tornados most likely don't hit the mountain area. Hope thats true. Fox is near Mountain View, in Stone County. Yes that area has been devastated by tornadoes twice in the last 10 yrs. Both with fatalities. The last one was in April. The theory that a tornado won't cross a mountain or a river or drop down in a valley... all myth. A tornado is going to go as long as the weather conditions are suitable to sustain it. The one that destroyed a good part of Arkansas (including the Mountain View/Clinton/Shirley area) was a mile wide and stayed on the ground for over 120 miles. And yes, they are scary. They can be devastating. But I have lived in Arkansas for 44 of my 48 yrs. I've lived in 4 different regions of the state. I have never been affected by a tornado, other than volunteering with clean up operations. Arkansas and it's people are beautiful. It's hard to meet a stranger. And, should you be hit by a tornado, you would be amazed at the envelopement of love, help, caring, and generosity of the neighbors from every corner of the state that show up without even getting a phone call. Come on down! ;)

Alice Shollar From Fla wrote: I want to know if clarksville ever is under threat from tornados? As we r looking to buy in that area. ty I have lived in Clarksville (or the surrouning smaller towns) all my life. And yeah we have our fair share of tornadoes or tornado warnings. But no one in my family has ever had their house hit before. The most damage I have ever had is a fallen tree, fallen limbs, and about half a dozen shingles knocked off. And even with the fear of tornadoes coming through...I would not live anywhere else. The good out weighs the bad....and "tornado season" is only a couple of spring months out of the year.
