Yes, they do happen in the Mountain Home / Flippin area. Not sure when the last one was though. Arkansas in general has several tornadoes each year. They have occurred all across the state. Just last weekend one hit in the Bentonville area in North West corner.

Ron from Florida, Mountain Home does get twisters from time to time. The last one reported was last week there was a poss tornado in the lower half of Baxter county area around the Norfork-Salesville area. However there hasn't been a major damage tornado in a few years.

I lived in that part of the state about 30 years and never saw a tornado, though I have been to the storm shelter a few times when sirens went off. Build a safe room and be weather conscious, but don't let fear of tornados be a determining factor in your decision. Wherever you go, you're at risk for tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, or some disaster. Just be as prepared as possible, and live each day to its fullest!

If anyone reading this knows anybody or has any family in Marmaduke, AR... they need you. Marmaduke was hit hard. Most of the north half of the town was ripped down. This was a bad one. There were railroad cars rolling thru the fields outside of town, if that tells you anything... Half a mile wide at the base and completely merciless... Thank god that nobody was killed, that we know of..

This is a report I got from the Jonesboro Sun. "A second series of tornadoes struck the middle eastern part of the state about the same time. The first was sighted on the ground at about 4:50 p.m. north of Searcy, according to the Little Rock office of the National Weather Service. The thunderstorm cell moved east, and the rotation did not touch down again until two hours later 5 miles west of Wynne. At that time a second tornado was sighted 3 miles to the southwest of Wynne. The Cross County Sheriff's Department reported heavy property damage to the south of Wynne and at least two injured." Hope your family is ok. Prayers for you and your family.
