She made a choice and now has to live with the consequences. Everyone has a choice. Most do the right thing while others do not. Her name should be published and she should be charged as an adult.

I teach high school and am sadly disappointed in some of our kids today. They want everything handed to them, they don't have manners or social skills, and they certainly are illiterate. If you choose a life of crime, you must be willing to suffer the consequences when you are caught. These "friends" are probably going to be in the newspaper next week for their own crimes--birds of a feather flock together.

"All 3 of these individuals should get the maximum penalty but along with that they need not to be forgot about, locked away in some 5x5 cell and left to rot." what you think of that huh????

But support is what she now needs not someone telling her she shouldn't be charged. She was in the wrong! It is a hard lesson to learn but again, she made the choice and now has to live with the consequences. Period! This was a grown up choice she made and a grown up punishment she should have! What you need to do is explain to her that it doesn't have to end here. She can redeem herself by becoming a better person when she has finally completed her punishment. I feel for you, her friend and her sister. But she needs to understand that her actions require punishment. It is the only way she will learn.

It doesn't matter that she didn't physically steal anything. She helped and that makes her an accessory to the crime and therefore a part of it. She deserves to be punished for what she did. Why didn't she inform the authorities a crime was about to happen? If only She had informed the authorities, if only she had chose better friends to hang around with, if only she had used her good common sense that surely must have been telling her that what was going on was wrong, if only..........

no one is saying that she shouldnt b charged she is doing time for her crime but she should not be charged as an adult...she knows wut she did was wrong nd she is a good person nd is fixing her life for the better....she knows that her life doesnt have to end here her life is gonna go on for a very long time nd she wont b getting into any more trouble...i love how ppl r on here saying thing about her but there r like no othere comments on the boys....who me lil sis nd best friend where also close to...nd they r paying for the crime just as well jimmy we will most likely never see again...nd well will miss him as well...but they r learning from wut they did...nd ppl on here should not be saying things about them for the fact that the dont no him...nd for the ppl r related to jimmy that doesnt really mean u no the real him....it doesnt matter wut ppl say we r going to have her bac nd b there with her the whole time b cuz we love her NO MATTTER WUT!!!

The family would definitely know someone better than a friend. But really, who knows what anyone is thinking. We are all endowed with the gift of free thought and that allows us to make our own decisions both good and bad. The girl and the boys should pay for their choice. If they had made a good choice, the would be repaid with good. They decided to take make the poorer choice and now must pay with punishment. They all were old enough to make an adult decision and should therefore pay with an adult punishment. I wish them all well and hope they learn and grow from here. But this doesn't change the fact that they invaded someone else's privacy by stealing. This is not an acceptable action. What about those they stole from? How do you think those folks feel? They were the innocent victims in this mess and were punished for doing nothing wrong. I really believe that the victims should have the choice of deciding the punishment of the offenders.

honey, please ... it's a loosing battle for you. quit arguing with educated adults!!! Thanks - thought I was going to have to point that out to her! So sad how a few of these posters can justify such a stupid act! I think at 16 you can get a work permit and actually make your own money if you need a little extra cash! Wow, now that's a thought! You are right. I don't know anything about her family. But I do know that not a single person in MY family has ever or would ever do what these kids did! Why didn't the "families" know where their kids were and what they were doing? At 16, I feel someone should have known. Maybe the parents should be charged for not taking care of their parental responsibilities. After all, this girl is a minor. I know where my kids are and what they are doing. I will check up on them occasionally just to let them know that I am still "watching". When they turn 18, the responsibility is all on them and I can sit back and watch them make there own decisions. I am there for them if they need it but I will NOT tolerate an illegal act perpetrated by them. I will help my children if they need it but the ultimate praise or punishment is on them after they turn 18.

Yeah MOM i think she should get punished, but all you people are makin it sound like she held a gun up to someone's head or something. And she didn't do anything like that. But only if you "adults" would stop judging her when you dont even kno the real story, all you know is what you read in the article. i aint just sticking up for her either, it's just what all you people are saying is kind of sad. And i love this girl with everything and you guys are really just pushing it a little. But whatever you can keep doing it since your SUCH BIG ADULTS cause i could care a less. And yea i agree with wifey about how i et you parents don't always know where your kids are at all the time. You know kids lie a lot these days.
