Well, Mr. Eckel, no one is telling you that you can't use immigrant labor. Just make sure they're LEGAL immigrants. I know all of you guys love the cheap, easily-abused labor while being able to load the taxpayers down with all of their needs, such as healthcare.

The big orchardists will seize this opportunity to whine because they don't want to pay higher wages. The cannot make a case for the illegal aliens they're used to employing. The previous poster has it right that employers of illegals don't care about the financial burden they cause local governments, the state, and federal govt. because illegals a variety of services from those sources. Where do you think the children of illegals to to school? Yes, the public schools and do the orchardists absorb those costs? No, they're dropped in the laps of taxpayers.

I agree with the other 2 posters here and have always been appalled by employers who don't have a care in the world whether their workers are legal or not. Maybe sit them in a jail cell for not getting appropriate legal documents before allowing illegals to work. You would also think immigration would pay even closer attention to these types of businesses where abuse is more common. Heck I'd rather pay more money for more immigration officials to help these employers stay legal and I think it's unfair that we educate their children. If they are illegal, they shouldn't even be here to begin with. I think a child and their parents should have to provide proof of citizenship prior to being enrolled in school. I don't think there is enough training available for picking out false documents etc. I mean come on how do we know Juan from Chavez or vice versa? They are illegals from another country so how can anyone really prove they are who they say they are even if you did try to go by the book. Someone call border patrol.

Where are the healthcare representatives?
I would sooner have NO tomatoes than die of a disease transported here by an "illegal" immigrant.

Excellent comments
, and representative of the many taxpayers I am in contact with on the Internet. I see no representative of the taxpayers was invited. Jim Taylor would be a good person for that slot as he served on the Arizona border. But being a college, the taxpayers will not get a fair shake. Same in Washington. No interest in what taxpayers think.

Santa Anna's life was spared, Remember The Alamo!!! San Jacinto was the treaty.

Mexican's are slaves, keep them in Mexico so they revolt and bring freedom to Mexico. SCREW Gw and the SPP which makes each American a third world citizen for Wall St's profit!

We may have reached a new low when purportedly informed American citizens make comments on this site like the following:
"I mean come on how do we know Juan from Chavez or vice versa?"
Do you realize that Smiths and Johnsons and Wilsons were also "illegal immigrants" in our nation's history? Perhaps we should call border patrol on everyone with an Irish surname.
Try to contextualize the current situation on migrant workers. Juan, Chavez, Smith, and Johnson have something in common that extends far beyond "legal status." The malevolent ignorance that a minority of uninformed citizens are sharing on this site (and many others) is a direct provocation that is awakening an ever-growing contingent of informed citizens who will vote for change. Thanks for your unknowing advancement of informed policy change.
