Couldn't be that they aren't allowed to hire illegals anymore...Thanks Immigration and Custms Enforcement and Border Patrol for handling this problem....another story of Mexicans taking the jobs that Americans could be doing. Oh! Wait a minute...no profit can be made unless low skilled low paid Mexicans are doing the work...close it down boys!!!

It is a shame that Proper Foods plans to close its doors due to today's economic impact. It's way past due for Smrkovsky and McInturff to get off their duffs and recruit clean factories and businesses to Deming...oops, I forgot they are not trained in economic development recruitment.

Didn't the City just give this company a special bond or grant? to build up their business? Or was that Border Foods? I'm pretty sure it was Proper Foods. Does anybody remember that? I guess this is our own fault. We have dopes like the city admin and joke for a mayor who know nothing about how to build up a town. If they would only learn how to reach out to the outside world and treat with respect those who are already here, we might get more jobs and a decent town. Hell, they can't even work with Walgreens! Time to go Rick, Linda, Scooter, Mayor, and "the rest" And most of all, Harvilee Moore!

Gee! I can just imagine how Vinson feels, ya right!! Deming keeps shrugging off companies from starting business here! I guess we'll have to continue being the poorest city in New Mexico! Thank you city admin and joke of a mayor, how many more payday loan companies are we adding to the town district?

I applied for work at at Proper Foods, Spartan Electronics, Border Foods, and the Joseph's Cookie plant several years back. Near the top of all the applications and/or interview sessions was the question "Can you speak Spanish?" Well, no - and I probably couldn't learn it fast enough to get the job anyway. Repeat the above to dozens of other employers around Deming.

The only place that offered me a job in Deming was the Wal-Mart, part time (and no health insurance as a result), night shift,$6.50 an hour. I did the math - part time for $6.50/hr wouldn't pay for my gas ($2/gallon back then, 10 mile tripe to and from home, 25 mpg vehicle), vehicle insurance, and vehicle maintenance and still have anything left over after the mandatory taxes were taken out. The option of "go find a second job" wasn't an option - recall this was the only offer.

I bailed for a better job markets. I bet most of the Deming high school graduates do the same thing. The closing of Proper Foods is just another nail in the coffin of a viable, thriving Deming.

So, out of 130 employees.
10 were legal.
The rest, who knows.
I wonder if Proper Foods executives will
have to pay back the money they stole
from Deming?
Yeah right!

Reminds me of an old joke..........A trooper in Georgia pulled over a group of illegals near Atlanta. Not understanding spanish and having extreme difficulty issuing a ticket, the trooper finally told the driver to leave...The mexican still not understanding and not wanting to leave for fear of being arrested, stayed put. Finally, the trooper pulled his weapon and said, "Listen boy, one thing we like to do for fun in Georgia is shotting cans. From African AmeriCANS, to Puerto RiCANS, to MexiCANS....the illegal took off in a hurry....

No! Jobs is not the only issue. Coming in and committing unspeakable crimes, to include child molesters, too common. Drugs, thieves, murders, bringing down the neighborhoods, etc.

Sad how all of you judge mexicans even if they are American Citizens. They have so much ambition to do work, work that you LAZY "Americans" won't do. Farm work, picking chile, cotton, onions...etc. You don't think the pay is "good enough" to do that hard labor.Young girls come to clean your houses and YOU turn around and introduce them to "welfare", something they don't have in Mexico because they believe in WORKING HARD!

So why aren't Mexicans working hard for "good enough" wages _IN MEXICO_? I think it's because the Mexican government, economy, and society are all so messed up that most Mexicans' choices are either to 1) starve, or 2)leave the country for something better (even for a backbreaking job and sub-legal pay).

I think Mexicans should better "get their own house in order" before they gripe about the conditions in the U. S.- especially if they entered the U. S. illegally.

Wrong, we just don't think that making the entire southwest into a US of Mexico is the way to go in America. Anybody can learn another language if they truly want to. We make it easy for Mexicans to thumb their noses at us. Guess what? Those days are about to end. Americans are no longer going to stand idly by and watch their nation become another piece of crap version of Mexico.

And, sorry the "race card" wont work with us. Why? Half the people who post here are of Mexican and Hispanic descent. We know what is happening and we will not allow it any more.

How sad for you. Americans are the hardest working people in the world. Look up smart ass. We work more hours, with less time off than any other nation. Also, we don't pick chiles because we have harder work than that to do. You don't believe it? Well, who the hell do you think invented this computer and the internet and just about every other great invention of late? You guessed it A..hole, AMERICANS! Again, the "race card" only works with stupid people. The rest of see right through it.

Also, the "don't have welfare in Mexico" because the rich who have stolen everything there and in most of Latin America do not care enough about their OWN people to offer it or any other types of compasionate services. You know as well as I that the entire country is owned 90 percent by 10 percent of the population. It is called a caste-system or patron-system and it does not work. No, we do not judge Mexicans until they come to OUR country, the USA and try to tell us how to live like they do. Why on earth would we want to promote a culture and language that has done NOTHING for Mexican? What arrogance to march in OUR streets and demand rights that have never been earned. You think that because one or two generations of Mexicans have "worked the fields" that it entitles you to OUR freedoms? Try building this country up for 300 plus years of blood, sweat and tears, then give us a call. We work harder, longer and always will. When we stop doing, then you just might be able to take what we have built. What Americans have done for Americans.
