they opened up the Buff right...maybe they can open up this store that makes it easier on some people, or is it the same old story here in Silver City, "town without pity"?????

The fire marshall is just doing his job. It is up to the tenants and property owner to bring the building up to code. I don't believe for a minute that the store was closed due to politics or lack of compassion. It has to do with the law and safety.

"get a good fire dept." ???? what kind of statement is this? I have personally been on the receiving end of the fire departments practice. After they saved a member of my families life I took notice. Have you seen them constantly training on the modern equipment they have, have you seen the hours they spend in class, Have you seen them at the park providing free services to the community? How can you say "get a better fire department"

Looking back at the current Fire Marshall. Buffalo Bar closed (reopened when safe), Western Stationers closed (reopened when safe). White Elephant closed, what makes you think he wont reopen this when it is safe. I think he is doing what he was hired for, making the community safe for the residents. Besides the employees of the Western Stationers even defended his actions at a council meeting when he closed THEIR business. Give the guy a chance.

You are so right in everything you say. If anyone thinks the White Elephant is safe and well organized, drive by the place. It's on Swan Street, south from Am Bank and across the street. Go take a look for yourself, take a good look at all the bags of clothes and other materials that have been there for months!

The Fire Marshall gave the owner a fair deadline to address his concerns. She failed to comply. She must clean up the property if she ever expects to reopen. I would bet her neighbors would also agree with me.

Yes, keeping a thrift store safe and organized can be a job. The fire Marshall is out to protect all of us, even if it means we have to put up with a few hassles.
