How stupid is this decision? We lost high tech engineering jobs when they lost Fairchild and Grumman. We lost major companies over the years that wanted to expand here, but could not afford to and the government would not give them a tax break. Here was a wonderful opportunity to bring talented people back to the Island. An opportunity to allow new research companies from New York City to settle here and they screw this up? The idea is to make Long Island attractive to new businesses. If the talent is here, they will come. OSI wants to stay in New York! They were not moving out of the state. They know the value of the New York work force. They know how important it is to stay close to New York city. It's time we vote for people who work for the Island instead of their party or own selfish interests.

Long Island continues its high-tax, anti-business, anti-jobs, big government decline.
But, in a democracy you get the government you deserve - good and hard. Enjoy it Long Islanders. It's only a reflection of your voting! |

Why doesn't Newsday tell us who the state legislator is, and some details about his objections?
|
||||
|
How in the world can Newsday report that OSI 'ran into resistance from a state legislator' and not even bother to name him/her? Considering that the story implies that the resistance was a key factor in OSI leaving LI, omitting the legislator's name would seem to be sloppy journalism.

OSI is important to Long Island. We will be losing more than 350 jobs. The company I work for sells and repairs some of their research equipment. This is a major source of income to our company. We are based in Farmingdale and may have to move to Westchester ourselves. That's a move we are dreading. It's not just us. What about the local companies that provided food services, auto repair, printing, etc. They will be losing a major portion of their business too.

"......hey another idea ,..BOIENG IS LOOKING AROUND FOR A NEW PLACE TO BUILD THE 787 DREAMLINER AND IF SOMEBODY COULD GET THE BOYS IN THE BAND TO PLAY ALONG MAYBE THEY MIGHT BRING BACK AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY TO THE
CRADLE OF AVIATION WHERE IT BELONGS,... . . .....YA THINK?. . ..ITS EITHER YOUR FUTURE OR YOUR FUNERAL YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE WITH YOUR ACTIONS AND YER WORDS ,..." Sounds like Calverton to me? Yes, actions will make the difference however, who's gonna' call? Complain of no "follow-up"; did they?! Golden opportunity to be pro-active and again, too lazy, disinterested and just plain indolent! Nice job [opps, sorry! Almost said the Work word!] "Politician" continues to be the least respected title right below attorney curiously and, typically they are both. That autta' tel ya' sumptin right there! But no, the public continues to be unacceptably slothfull at election time! More screening is conducted for the typical job applicant for school custodian that that of a prospective elected official. Least aways after the vetting, the custodian is more qualified for position than the politico for that too which elected! We owe it to our ownselfs! |

I'm looking forward to Senator Fuschillo's explanation as to why he killed the Long Island bio tech industry.
He could have carried and passed the legislation that saved the 200+ jobs at OSI. This is another example of the Long Island "brain drain"--a young company/child grows up on LI and then grows up and moes away for better opportunities. Demerits all around! |

I hope this will save Long Island taxpayers the $86,697 in security spent "due to multiple home protests conducted by animal rights activists", according to an earlier Newsday story.
