First, any restaurant that provides a smoking area is going to lose revenue to people that can afford higher prices. Smokers are low class and low income in these parts.
Second, Riverside grill, hmmmm, maybe clean the awning and give yourself a paint job would have helped. I say flatten it and bring on a chain that will have a clean awning, maybe Cheese Cake Factory.
Third, The Boat House needs to keep up with the times, nothing special there to keep them afloat, pardon the pun.
About Riverside Grill, the landlord would not put any money into the building. The awning or paint, the landlord was a cheapskate. Guess he would rather see it sit empty than with good, hard working honest people leasing it. It's a shame to see it close. Good food and good people running it.

First of all, punching you in the face is illegal, this is called assault. This is NOT the same as smoking in a public place. No one has the right to do this. As well as spraying cat urine, this is assault also. And as far as having the "right" to smoke in a public place, this is what I call a privlige. This is granted to me by the business owner that allows smoking in their establishment. No one has the "right" to go to a privately owned establishment. A buisiness owner can refuse to serve anyone, unless it involves the color of our skin, disability, etc. Anyone that is offended by cigarette smoke certianly can make the choice to go to an establishment that allows it or not. I do not think that my posts, nor the posts of the other smokers on this thread have been militant, but your thread and many of the opinions of the non-smokers have been. The fact of the matter is this-it is about choices, not rights.
Let me get this straight - a bad smell you're subjected to is "assault," but you giving me cancer is your "privlige" (your spelling)? Really? How delusional can you get? But thank you for proving my point. I'm usually against government getting involved in issues like this, but because of your utter disregard for non-smokers (which most smokers share), I think there is no other option.

By your own admission, you couldn't care less what your smoking does to me, and you're hiding behind the law to justify it. That's fine. I agree with you, it's legal - but I trust you'll feel the same way when smoking is illegal in all indoor and outdoor public places. Because it will be soon, primarily because smokers like you have spent years blowing your cancer haze in non-smokers' faces and telling them to get over it.

In a way I should thank you - your obnoxiousness and hiding behind the law will create a law build just for you that never would have come about if you'd been just a little bit respectful of other people. Congratulations - you win. Enjoy growing your lung-cancer crop with each blissful puff on your couch.

Again, your militancy speaks for itself. Please forgive me for my misspelled word as I did not have spell check available on the computer terminal that I was using. Never wrestle with a pig, you both get dirty and the pig likes it! End of discussion on my part.

No, they're driving up housing prices because they can pay whatever bloated price a developer pulls out of his rear, while the rest of us are stuck actually trying to live on a realistic budget. Also, they're driving up housing prices because developers are building for them and not for anyone else. They're the market, not me or anybody else who actually still works for a living. Housing prices aren't going to go down if developers are allowed to build whatever the hell they want, wherever and whenever the hell they want, as you're advocating.
I agree with you that growth and development are not bad, but most of the development we see around Asheville, unfortunately, is bad. It's not even growth -- it's wasteful sprawl. Ideally, I'd like to see the city get a lot denser and a lot taller, but I'd like to see those buildings and neighborhoods open to all and economically integrated. Neighborhoods with a mix of incomes are the healthiest and strongest, and we're not seeing those in Asheville anymore. What we're getting here instead are ghettos for the poor and ghettos for the rich, and overall the city as a whole is becoming one big glitter ghetto for Thad and Bootsie up from Atlanta for the weekend.

Okay... and that refutes my argument exactly how?

By the way, I wouldn't say they're wee in the least. They're of average size, and lately the right one has been swelling up. I hope it's nothing serious.

As long as your doctor isn't named Jesse Jackson, you'll be fine.
