They did the same thing to me (as they do to everyone else) they required me to work unpaid (because it affects the bonus of the store manager, district manager, etc) when they have to pay overtime. So they tell you not to clock in for taking phone calls at home, and for coming in early/leaving late. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT BY ANY MEANS, THEY TREAT ALL OF THEIR EMPLOYEES THIS WAY!

I haven't bought gas at a SA since 9-11. When they freaked out and jacked prices up right away the morning after. Super anything my foot. They're overpriced anyway.

I agree it is not a isolated incident. "They" I feel is the wrong term though it wasn't "speedway"'s fault but it wasn't ours either it's the pressure you feel when you have a store manager who is a ****H and makes your life hell for not getting it done. I feel it is the store managers who are at fault because they are the ones who tell you to do it. Why don't we retaliate well because even though it is a federal law not to fire someone for a complaint I felt in my case I would have lost my job and Speedway has decent health insurance. I have 3 kids and they are more important to me than not getting paid for staying over 2hrs to finish up because someone quit so I kept quiet. In the 8 years I worked for Speedway and probably 7 store managers only 2 said "you do not work unless you are getting paid." And it's pretty bad that the 2 who said I could claim those phone calls as worked time no longer work for Speedway now that says something doesn't!?!?

Not all managers are bad. The rule has always been that no one works unless they are on the clock. On the flip side, I don't know many Asst or Shift Leads that kept track of the date and time of the phone calls in order to get paid for them. It is the responsibility of the person who worked to record the time on the time sheet,it is only the store managers responsibility to enter it into payroll. We as managers should not have to ask "did you get called at home this week?". For liability reasons SA has never condoned working off the clock. If anyone wants to start a complaint, it should be for the 60-65+ hours managers put in when they are salaried for 50.
