3 Shot In Sterling

I agree, this is out of control and even though I don't live in Sterling Park, I care. I want to help. But I don't know how. My brother lives in Sterling and he said he has stopped jogging in the evenings and his wife runs to the car even during the day now and shuts the door. They can't afford to sell and have 3 kids. Police statistics show 24% of the aggravated assaults in Loudoun County during 2008 so far happened in Sterling Park. When you have gang members, the potential is there. When you have gang members living in the same communities, the potential is there. It is a combination of gang members, over crowding, and a lack of community involvement. So how do we fix it? What can ordinary people do to help?

Write to the county and let them know how you feel. Get to know your neighbors. Pay attention to what is going on in your neighborhood. Go to the board meetings, talk to your Supervisor. I know that Supervisors in other communities have this attitude like it isn't a problem because it hasn't happened in our district yet...the operative word is YET. Don't believe that you are safe because you are not in Sterling, because unless something is done it WILL spread to the rest of Loudoun. And believe me MS-13 (mainly in Sterling Park) and 18th Street (Mainly in Sugarland)come to Ashburn too...they follow the money. You probably have some living amongst you now. These are mainly children of poor illegals that were drawn to Sterling for older cheaper housing but as gang memebers some make a pretty good living off drugs, prostitution and other crimes.

Ashburn Family, As a resident of Sterling Park unless they live in Pembrook or South Town Houses, I think your sister-in-law is overeacting a bit due to the recent events...Sterling Park is not so bad that she has to run to her car in broad daylight. I walk throughout my community daily and feel perfectly safe doing so.

Until we all have had enough of these illegal alien invaders things are going to get worse and worse. The government is no longer able to protect you beacuse it has castrated itself with political correctness and socialism. The only real hope is for citizens to begin to make life very hard on the illegals, legally I hope but if that doesnt work, whatever does. We need to do something very soon, like within 4 or 5 years it will be too late. This problem started about 25 years ago and 25 more we will no longer have a recognizable country. we need more efficient ways of integrating them into our society first of all...I dont think they "all" are bad or need to be shipped away. Some of them come over and really truly work their asses off and spend more time trying to stay out of trouble than many of us may know. However, on the flipside, I believe the IRON FIST FROM GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF MUST be brought down on this gang activity IMMEDIATELY. We cant let these dummys think because of hip-hop and scarface movies they can get away with it. The USA is not El Salvador, we are not in civil war and our government is not a bunch of heartless bloodthirsty thugs no matter what alot of these underground anarchist movies portray. We ALL have an obligation to uphold the system in this country whether u are a citizen or not, it should be a question of moral integrity. is it just me who read a recent (2007?) article about how LEGAL immigration in the US is what will put us over the 500 million mark in the next decade? yes, there are illegal immigrants in the country, and yes that is WRONG (not to mention illegal???) but waiting for someone to get off their duff and deport the illegals is going to be one really sllllloooooowwwwwww way to deal with the current violence in loudoun county. and it VERY POSSIBLY will not take care of the whole problem. was the ashburn stalker an illegal??? i honestly do not know, someone tell me???

^^^I dont think so...but there have been other sexual assaults in this area, especially on the bike trails, by illegal immigrants and other LEGAL immigrants with their shit out of wack. And u are right that might be a slow way of dealing with the issue but we have to be rational. I mean what are we going to do, go to war on our home turf? Some ppl probably wouldnt object to it but it wouldnt be healthy and wouldnt have a positive image to the rest of the world. We need to be real, bring bottom end jobs back to the US for these illegals AND legals to work. If U cant speak english there is no reason for u to be making as much as an english speaking citizen in AMERICA...unless you are the translator...just my opinion, these are the issues we need to bring up.

Of course deporting all the illegals is not going to work. But we need to stop giving them so many incentives or they will keep coming. Cut off the incentives and many of them will self-deport. As long as we keep giving them jobs, education and healthcare ALL TAX FREE and provide housing and all the support in their language, they are going to continue to believe they are welcome.

But if we were to cut off incentives that keep them here, then they will stop coming. These jobsite raids that ICE & Homeland security have been doing do get them on the run but they fail to follow-up with a much more important step. PUNISH THE BUSINESSES THAT HIRED THEM. They are the root of the problem, Make it so painful that these employers never want to hire another illegal again. There are verification processes available for employers to check legal status before hiring but the government in all its wisdom made that e-verify process OPTIONAL. So those who want the cheap labor just choose not to use it.

Get rid of the anchor baby loophole too. If the parents are illegal then so should be the child. All this loophole does is encourage the illegals to come and have many children that are legally entitled to taxpayer funded public services. It also gives them a sob story to use when they get caught "OH boo-hoo, you can't deport me, I made many babies while I was living here illegally"

And require legal status before allowing children to be enrolled in our schools or admitted into our hospitals. I for one and sick and tired of paying more and more taxes to build schools when I know that a very large chunk of that money is going to educate children of non-tax paying illegals.

And our healtcare problem? Consider the fact that in many border states, hospitals are going bankrupt because they are forced by Federal Law to provide emergency care for all the illegals passing through their states. They are not legally allowed to ask about a patients status. As the illegals settle in other states (like in our own) what they don't pay gets passed on to all of us.

I do know what they were into ... all of them at one time or another have been guests in my home and eaten at my table. They are predominantly good kids from hard working families -- none of whom are illegal. I believe that this shooting occurred because of ONE kid in that group who has made some bad choices for himself and is involved with some bad people. This ONE kid comes from good, hardworking people who have provided a good home. This ONE kid doesn't even live in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred but he sure enough brought it to our doorsteps. This ONE kid has forever changed the lives of the other kids who were on the corner with him that night and I can only hope that each and every one of them think about that and choose not to associate with him anymore -- it could be life threatening.

While I agree that the zoning laws need to be enforced, this shooting is not a result of overcrowding ... it is the result of inadequate policing. Several of us in the neightborhood saw what was going on on that corner (and I'm not talking about the basketball) and we called police, repeatedly, and it didn't do any good. Our worst fears were realized that night despite our efforts to stop it. The only thing we can do now is to stay involved and try to keep anything like this from happening in Sterling Park ever again ....
