If you go into the archives from Women's Health Magazine.com there is an article on going green. There is a service you sign up for (5 years for $1) and it takes you off junk mail listings. I signed up a few months ago and I have significantly reduced the amount of crap I get in the mail.

So, are telemarketers more annoying than junk mail? How many of you actually read and use those stupid little magazines or penney savers or sample news papers that now seem to come every single freaking day? How many millions of trees are wasted for crap that goes directly into the trash cans that are located near mail boxes? I can hang up on telemarkers and delete spam ... the tree is already dead when the crap mail gets to my box.
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I actually saved all the junk mail for a month---it was over 20 pounds!

You are a douc---bag . Your post is stupid and the people calling you are college students and seniors just like your parents trying to stay busy and make a buck. Get a life you pathetic loser. This cannot be accurate. I didn't hear one person complain about telemarketers in 2007; it was gas prices, mortgages, rents, property insurance, health insurance, etc.

I haven't tried it but a friend tells me that when he gets an unwanted call he says to the caller: "I'm glad you called...I want to talk to you about Jesus." Claims it works every time.

You know, there really is NO reason to allow telemarketing to take place. People can choose who they want to call for whatever services, make donations to whatever organizations or anything else - fully on their own. Telemarketing should be banned completely. There's no need for it, Americans do not want it. Why our right are stripped from us to benefit business is beyond me. Protect the people NOW.

With the FL primary coming up it is important to note that political calls are exempt.

These calls are an epidemic and are invading the privacy of All American Voters.

Our members are taking a stand and saying enough is enough at the National Political Do Not Contact Registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org .

Here is a quote from a member this morning:

"I find it very frustrating... I tend to get calls at the WORST time. I have a one year old daughter, and it NEVER fails that the phone will ring when I put her down for a nap or for bed. Also my vote is PRIVATE... so who do you think you are calling with a survey to find out who I am voting for!!! Stop calling me."

Who's the bigger "douc---bag", the poster who tells how he handles annoying callers, or the poster who has to "out dikc" that poster by making up another figure and tossing it out there to compensate for his sexual issues?

the so-called ‘interactive’ internet sites are fronts for the gathering of information and according to an interesting memo I read a week ago, in California in specific, the Bank of America has a direct liaison with the DHS and supplies them, unasked, for information on customer’s safe deposit holdings and account balances. In California (and perhaps in other states) the DHS can, and does, get into the safe deposit boxes of any customer. There are certain, specific subjects on Google or other information web sites such as Wikipedia, that trigger instant notification to specific governmental agencies. For example, if someone looks up the subject of a change of government in the Ukraine , a major and very secret CIA project, the CIA is notified at once. Someone curious about border security has their name and personal information to include computer IP addresses, on growing lists of “suspect terrorist friendly personages”(as the report reads) or anyone looking up Fidel Castro gets filed as a ‘Communist Cuban sympathizer’ even if, in reality, they are a 15 year old Cuban-American doing a term paper for civics class! Isn’t fascism a wonderful thing, kids?”

A quick word from an ex telemarketer, I had the misfortune of working in one of these trashy places and it sucks, I had to make call after call selling insurance (pointless).
All the time you are thinking if I dont make a sale soon I will be in the bosses office for a warning, they dont give a sh*t about anything but sales, if you get a lead you are flavour of the day .2 days on and no leads you are out casted, you have to make calls all day long (mind numbing boredom)
I believe that marketing companies are set up by people that cant open a proper company they just need phones PC and some Muppets to make calls and there you have it.
Needless to say I went to lunch and never went back I would rather sit and watch a pot of paint go solid than do that cr*p all day.
Sorry to all those I had to call, please people wise up and get some new skills and leave the dead end marketing world.
And proper companies wise up and stop paying these buffoons to market your products you pay them to much and the call staff dont give to toss*es about your business they are just going through the motions. Market your stuff yourself with TV ads and internet and close these morbid places down.

As long as there are schmucks who pay for things over the phone, there will be telemarketers. If these companies didn't actually make any sales ever, then they would not be around. People get mad at telemarketers, but they exist because somewhere, someone buys things over the phone.

Totally Awesome advice. If even 10% of those that get called did this, you would put these jagovs out of business. From now on I will use this tactic.

You're doing the telemarketers a favor. When a telemarketer calls you and you're the type that would never buy anything over the phone, they want you to hang up on them and/or rapidly call them names. That way, they can simply move on to the next sucker on their calling queue.
If you want to win the telemarketing game, do the following:
(1) Let them go on and on with their presentation (all while watching tv or cruising the Internet -- whatever you were doing before they interupted you).
(2) When they're done, ask a random questions like: "Can you tell me more?" or "I'm sorry, I didn't understand you, can you repeat what you just said, just much more slowly so I can understand." Keep asking them random questions.
(3) Keep them on the phone as long as possible. The longer you keep them on the phone, the less time they have to make any real sales.
(4) When you have finally tired of the game, explain what you have been doing. Tell them that you were intentially trying to interupt their sales to get back at them for interupting your evening.
I've been doing this for a while, especially with the Fraternal Order of Police telemarketers. If you want to hear a REALLY p!ssed off a telemarketer, keep them on the phone for a hour and then explain that you've been toying with them the whole time. It works a thousand times better than simply cursing at them.

Okay, most of these posts were about land lines. What about when they call your cell phone and won't take you off the list?

There is NO protection by our government when it comes to predatory companies. We have been receiving collection calls for oh, about two years and a half dozen times or more per day for an Abraham and Corolla Segall. It doesn't matter that we've told them over and over that this is not their number nor have they had this number in at least more than a decade and yet each day we get more harassing phone calls for Abraham and Corolla Segall. It never ends. Even on Sundays, early in the morning into the night.

At least when your cell phone rings and it shows up at "no data" or "unknown", you can just assume it's someone that you don't want to talk to and ignore the call. Granted, one can do the same at home too. I've noticed that after about a week, whatever number keeps calling and not leaving voice mails stops calling.

They call the cell phones of children. They don't care and the government still won't do anything real about it. It's all about the money - government taking the kickbacks. That is reality.

I am constantly being called by the New York Comedy Club in Boca Raton. This year alone, I have filed 4 complaints on the national Do Not Call Registry and called the club as well to complain. When is action going to be taken? Why bother to register if nothing is done?

If you have done business with them in the past 90 days they may contact you, according to the law.

But the nice thing to do would be, at your request, to be taken off their list.
