im a skater and i live in seymour texas and as you may not know we dont have a skatepark here and its illegal to skateboard here and wichita is wat 60 miles away i would love to go there and skate and i think it would be better if u added a skateshop as well somewhere in wichita so if kids break a board they can get a new one without having to travel 100 miles or more or wait 2 weeks to get it over the internet!! peace out!

i think it is about time we are getting on i have been skating for about three years on and off and every time we go skate somewhere we always get kicked off or get a ticket well they are always gryping about where we skate so i say it is about time they spend a little more of our tax money on something a little more usfull to the community and not some stupid million dollar swimming pool or golf course that none even really uses or needs because we already have like ten of each

I think spending millions on a golf course is silly.

i think its a good idea
Think about childhood obesity and if u have something there for the kids to do then there not going to be sitting in front of the computer or TV or the time they will be doing something.

Im a skater that hasnt skated in years(ever since I moved from Alaska)but if there were to be a skate park here I would get back in to it. It would be good for the community give the kids some where to go with out being herassed. Dont get me wrong its not going to be a perrect garden, there will be litter, graffiti, along with other thing some people wont like, but there will be regulator. Im talking about the skater that have pride in there park, they will keep it clean and keep watch over the disrespectful ones.
So in summery desspite some of the bad having a skate park will only be good.

Do you comprehend anything other than football?

What you witnessed was pure skill.

As dangerous as it may seem to you, it's what makes skateboarding different. Risk = Reward

No coaches, no home field, no rules... skateboarding is freedom. And it takes a lot of time and athleticism to master.

Trust me. The skate park will not stop skaters from challenging themselves on the streets.

Nothing is wrong with skateboarding and having fun because my son loves his skateboard, but watch you will have more kids in the hospital than ever before then there will be complaints that the ER is full. When you have people with real illness and sickness may have to wait when someone comes in for a broken leg for skateboarding. Why not use the money to upgrade Boys and Girls club or make a youth program thing or put the money into something useful. We complain about the kids doing this and doing that and going into clubs, but never do anything about it and spend money on things that are not important no more or does it depend on what side of town you live in. Alot of things are being take away by the base to the point where people have to go on the other side of town to shop and that is not right ecspecially for someone who doesn't have transportation. Think about what you are doing because lately the way this city is spending money, it is not right.

It looks like skaters will have a skate park soon. I am not a skater, but my sons were when they were growing up and it would have been great to have had one then. Anyone that grips about having to pay for it should realize that kids are our future and they need things like this to help them grow. We all pay for everything and there are always those who don't like the pretty flowers and parks because they have to pay for those too. In this life there is nothing free. Support our YOUTH !!!!! It might even keep them out of trouble.

For those worried about how our tax money is being spent, here's a thought. Vans and other skateboarding related companies, have been "sponsoring" other parks. I don't know how much they are kicking in, but the city council could look into getting a sponsor for the park, to ease the burden on the taxpayers.
I hope all children who skate there have health insurance.

The people, including myself, who are against a skate park have good reasons. Number one, our tax dollars are paying for it. If you can get private dollars to build it and run it, then fine. Number two, it won't be long until there will be lawsuits over injuries. We can't get a break on our property taxes and the city complains about the cost of cleaning up from the storms, but we can spend money on frivilous and dangerous projects that most of the citizens will not be using. We are not against having fun and we are not idiots, Josh.

First of all, judging by the posts here, the kids who care so much about this stupid "recreation" should throw away the skateboards, get an English grammar book, and learn something productive and useful.

Aside from that, this "recreation" is neither productive nor safe and is too often an intrusion AND a danger to citizens.

NO tax dollars should be spent on a skate park when this city (like most any other) has real problems which are not being properly addressed.

If these kids are in such need for a place to skate, so wayward or lacking anything productive to do, then the issue needs to be addressed with their PARENTS.

The "priorities" of some people are simply astounding.

You sir, are a moron.
Yes, these kids are "our future" - so you are wrong if you think that encouraging something so useless as skateboarding is appropriate to the cultivation of that future. How do you figure something like skateboarding will keep them out of trouble? Do you understand the dangers involved? They risk their own safety AND that of others. If they are to be involved in athletics, it must be supervised by proper officials; otherwise, there are a number of ways to keep kids out of trouble (if their parents are not going to do their jobs)- put these kids to work or place them in organized projects wherein they will help others, clean up the city, etc.

And WHO IN THE HELL does not like "pretty flowers and parks"?????

Yeah well, there's that AND the fact that people may have to wait while some damn illegal alien is given medical assistance.

The priorities in this country are really screwed up.
