I have a problem with a freeloader at my moms home. She took this guy in 4 years ago and his son and he was her supposed bfriend. She has treated him to anything he wanted and his son for 4 years. In late Febuary she had a major stroke, and is now very disabled and is in a nursing home. One and half hours after she was admited to the hospital he took her purse and stole all of her money and then stole all of her money from the bank. He is to this day still living in her home in thomasville freeloading off off her and the government because he receives benefits from dss because he is too lazy to work. He is also selling all of her belongs and depriving food from her grandchildren(who lived with her) and treating them horribly and being verbally abusive. The city police and the dss has been called but the refuse to do anything because they say he lives in the home and he has a right to do anything he wishes. I can only evict him through the courts, but this will take several months and by the time i will finally get him to leave everything will be gone. I dont know what to do anymore, what kind of world do we live in when some who is 64 and he is 50 can take advantage of a situation and get by with such crimes.

Make his life a living hell. Aproach him daily. Provoke him. Once he lays a finger on you, call the cops. Once he sees that it is more trouble than it's worth, he might leave.
What about your mom, at the nursing home. Can she enforce her right to have a person removed from her property? Was the guy paying rent. |

He has no legal rights. The owner of the property, or the person who signed a rental/lease agreement is the one with the rights. If you are a relative, get power of attorney immediately, and kick the guy out. Don't believe for one minute that he can stay there and destroy things and misuse her relatives. Have him arrested for stealing her money and cleaning out her bank account. This guy needs to go!

Get power of attorney and kick the guy out. The property owner has rights, and the person who signs a lease or legal rental agreement has rights. A freeloader has no legal rights, regardless of who "invited him in". I am a landlord, and I know the law. You could also try to have him arrested for stealing her money and/or cleaning out her bank account. If she was renting or leasing, talk to the landlord, and try to get the landlord to kick him out.

to get a power of attorney which you do need from her, you dont have to be related to her at all, your looking ot in her best interest untill you get the power of attorney he can do whatever he wants to, i know its not fair, i have been through it myself

Freeloader law is out of hand.
Rights in America, once determined by relationship status, have been sold to the highest bidder, or the person most capable of extortion. It is the ultimate strongarm when persons are placed at risk by squatters, freeloaders, and authorities who let themselves in, plan on staying, and then reap the rewards of their force. That America has decided to allow them to do so is utter nonsense, has no basis in law, and is an afront to all who encounter the problem. Freedom has become freedom for the thieves, embezzlers, and squatters; not freedom for the owners. This is not an ownership society now; it ended with the Kelo decision in New London, CT by allowing the strong arms of privilege and influence to usurp the status of the owners. Congress sits by idly while the Supreme Court cripples the freedoms and rights of every American citizen. It matters little whether the squatters and freeloaders are professional or non-professional. Predatory capitalism says that it is acceptable if they are unwilling to yield and willing to pursue their extortion tactics and calculated theft and embezzlement. What a country America has become! |

I get so upset when I hear about cases like this. Its so sad to know that we live in a time when people would walk over you before they would stop to help. This woman was helping someone and they took advantage of her. Its needs to stop, I cant tell anyone what to do, but I would be all in their stuff. I've never had any trouble with the law, but it would be hard to sit by and not say anything.

A dear friend of mine is suffering thru the same terrible situation and there seems to be nothing he can do to get his one time friends now squatters out. They aren't paying rent and owe my friend a great deal of money. They sold some of his property while he was away and kept the money. They wont even let him get his belongings out of the house (I suspect the expensive stuff has already been sold or pawned,) They consistently lie and tell the landlord they are moving and when the day rolls around to move they have friends over and have a party which ultimately results in no one moving. The guy is on probation for violence against some guys truck (the guy hit on his wife). He works too and has plenty of money to drink and drug. She is lazy and takes care of the stepson whom she hates. A real screwed up bunch of people.

My step sons wife ran him off, and my wife lets the fool come here and live.. he lays carpet for a living.. I did work with him, but no more seeeing he will not pay the ones that work with him. He comes in and lays on the couch from time to time.. my wife washes his cloths for him, he takes baths here, and leaves his dirty cloths laying around.. I had tryed talking with my wife about it, and we end up like to bull dogs fighting... She will not let me have any control over he matter.. SO I took it into my hands just about 3 days ago. I thought hhhmmm the cloths that he leaves laying around, I'm going to wash them, and when I do, I'm going to wash them in bleach. hhhe hhaa I pays like top $ for his cloths as well.. Name brand stuff. LOL I'm just waiting for him to get so upset with me that he could punch me out.. and when he does hit me.. the cops will come and get him. Just about ever tool he has to work with I have tore up. He has to now buy new tools to lay carpet with. He is using my building to store his working tools in. And I'm the only one with the key. I have tore up about $800 worth of tools. |

invite them on a vacation have them bring most there belongings and leave them.......most freeloaders dont have cars so you have to be fast put the rest of there things on the street lock up your house...and dont come back for a few days.
pray that thay got the hint..have the cops go by first..report a brake in..if you lock up right thay will have to brake in...and never let some one use your adress for mail..so let me tell you step by step........ 1.two weeks befor change of address on person put your name\fam. at the post office only... 2.make sure no mail has come on freeloaders name what they have will be old cuz thay moved out.. 3. talk about vacation and how much fun you all will have make sure they bring all they can.. 4. have new lock bout, sticks for windows, garage secure, have free loader help you (secure house not buy locks) after all you are going on vacation. lol 5. I would take them camping maybe stay one night or just unload there things first set up there tent and bounce tell them to watch the fire and your going to pick some one up or something.... 6. dont feel bad cuz they dont....... |

Actually, that's incorrect. He was allowed to establish residence, by the tenant/homeowner, and regardless of a lease would need to be evicted by NC law. But here's a thought. Does your mom have all the utilities in her name? If she's in a nursing home, why not cut them all off? Let him stay in a dark, cold house with no water, see if that speeds up the process a bit. |

I second the suggestions to turn off the lights and water. I had to do that to get rid of a bad roommate and her deadbeat husband. Make sure the water and power companies understand the situation, because your freeloader will try to impersonate you to get it turned back on. Be prepared to spend days in a hotel before they get too disgusted with their own stink to remain in your place any longer. And be ready to clean your place and change the locks immediately afterward.
