Well, after reading this week's Carbondale News, and learning that all the building projects that had been promised to be started this summer are DEAD because a certain council member made it as difficult as possible for a developer to start....yes, I have to say, now I am.

Yes it should be depressing after you read this weeks Carbondale News .
The councle was going down the wrong direction,
If they were thinking on the terms of getting young families back in to the area , there wrong ,
And if they were thinking on terms with all of this , what would attracted people in the area to all what they wanted to put here.
I see the word zero come to mind.
The young adult people, do not want to live here amongest a population of all most 100% seniors.
If the town councle thinks on the terms of seniors and building more houseing for the senior citizens and gulf couses and function areas and ect. for the seniors they would be doing something the right way and they would not be loseing the moneys.
Instead of thinking that there own field of dreams would happen with young families, factories that are the thing of the past.
Lack. county and the whole lower and upper vally areas are made up Seniors ,
People long past that work here and died here and we are
area still here and will died here.
We are part of an history long gone and part of an American history that will never give up in a time of need.
My advice to the Carbondale area councle is simple
think senior citizen and the rest will follow .
That is where it is at, I have seen other areas out side of these mountains and there are areas that have seniors just as many as we do here in many cities and towns .
These areas have taken care of there seniors with houseing and function areas and they have double there jobs in taking care of them and double money on takeing care of the seniors.
I am sorry , I think it is wrong .
We are the ones that built this area up and now we are seeing it go to hell.
We are the ones still working to try to stay ahead.
and we are the ones still being called upon the history making.
and we are the only ones that are keeping the malls alive.
With out the seniors in this vally of Lack. County things would be dead.
The upper vally can really can come alive if they do more for us.
Instead of taxing the hell out of us, where we are loseing our homes right to left and other things besides.
You people that are in office THINK SENIOR CITIZEN.
That is all I have to say.

A few years back, Scranton had a consulting firm come to discuss why the area wasn't bouncing back. The conclusion? The people have a negative attitude.
That's the bottom line, in my opinion.
And I go back and visit every year so have the ability to know what's up AND to compare to other places.

yes, carbondale is extremely depressing and im speaking for the kids all then kids n our town . tell me what is it in our town that kids can really do .. besides being in gangs, hanging on the streets in the summer times .... think about it nothing ... u have people living in projects where they have kids that cant have pools to swim in , and a park called russel park that has nothing to do cause it hasnt been up to code since i was like 14 and now im 28 .. what u need is to upgrade ur park.... there is so much much spacethere that you dont even realize it , but enough to put a pool in there , where it could b open to the public with a low fee ... theres also a stand there where u can make it a snack bar to as well with the folks playing basket ball, football, pratices , playing n the playgrounds would not mind a snack or too.... u have a senior citizen center , as well as to the snack bar they can help . i mean really come on .. now u have not one school that is banned cause of codes , but a school that has just recently been shut down .. roosevelt school could if u really wanted to help the children from the hill top have something to do make it a rec center ... u know today kids that are robbing , gangs, killings, are only doing it cause really what else is there to do. i am 28 yrs old and i have lived here all mylife and let me tell u playing n the streets back then was the fun part, but now ndays u cant even leave ur kids out n ur front yard with out wondering if a gang is going to walk by n do somthing.. i use to hang for fun down town ,, why cause there was nothing to do .. i have 2 lil boys that are 2 and ill tell ya one thing it sucks to know that they ahve no future in this town .. due to the fact that theres nothing to do ... how many townshave those inground pools for the public .. scranton, dunmore, ok fine .. but also u have to rem we live n a town where there and more families that have no cars and have to walk and have children or more .. why cant we think about the kids saftey and fun for all ages .... i want to be apart of this commity but i dont think my words would matter cause im not high rank as others ... to me the world today to make ur children safe and want to know where they are , and actually have fun ... this town needs more mouths to speak and more ideas for the children cause if u havent noticed our population is welfare and really where can u go on welfare nowhere .. how much fun can u have on welfare no fun , unless u can change that .. til then yes this town is extremely depressing... change it for the people who liv here and wantto stay and have something good to say to why im here . cause rite now i dont kno why im here! im praying n hoping fora change someday

Serina- I hope you are putting me on. If you are a product of the public schools there, we are in trouble. Can you not write coherently?
I bother to write that only because you may think it is "cool" to express yourself in almost illiterate terms. Surely you can do better, or were high when posting?

Exiled, you're an ass. Serina, Carbondale is depressing and I feel sorry for you that you have had to live your whole life here. It would not matter how many public pools were put in, this town would still be depressing. I really do not know why, but I think that it is spiritual or environmental. Feel depressed since moving here, from September to May. I have talked to many people about this and apparently it is a well known fact in this region that Carbondale is depressing.

I can admit value to someone else's thoughts even when I find the person unlikeable.

I, too, have thought there is a negative spiritual, karmic or environmental haze over the region. But it doesn't affect everyone. I have friends there who raise families, ski, travel, go to cultural events, volunteer, etc. and are a positive influence. It is so disrespectful to ignore their efforts and concentrate on the bad. Says something about the depressed ones, perhaps.

Take responsiblity for yourself and MOVE if you think Carbondale is that bad.I'm sure you are not contributing to any positive change.

Exiled, you didn't admit any value to Serina's thoughts when you made fun of her in your post, and you passed judgment on her (saying that you find her unlikeable) when all she did was share her thoughts on the Carbondale area where she lives, and you don't, without saying anything personally rude, as you did. Remember that in your post you asked if she was high when she wrote. How rude and condescending! Why would you say something like that to someone that you don't even know? It seems to me that you, in your rude, hurtful and negative comment, are part of the problem for someone already living in a depressed area. Think about that.

I left Carbondale back in 1971 when I graduated from St. Rose High School. I have been back a few times over the years and every time I visit it seems like a little bit more of Carbondale has died. I think the fire that has been burning buildings down when I was a kid has finally stopped. It's sad but Carbondale (the place of my birth) has really turned into a city that is litteraly dead. My son who is now 26 recently sccompanied me on one of my recent visits and said "Dad what did you do for fun growing up". My reply to him was "I pretty much became an drunk because there was nothing else to do". Thank God I now live in Dallas Texas and would never even consider the thought of moving back to Carbondale. Don't get me wrong, Carbondale has some very good childhood memories for me, but I sure woulden't want to raise any kids there. And I'll bet a dollar to a donut that the city is still as crooked as it was when I was a kid. Oh well I'm glad I don't live there any more.

Having re-read my comments, I stand by them.
But, I wasn't being insulting, was asking a real question.( I did not refer to Serina as unlikeable, by the way).
It is true however, that I'm not impressed with someone who becomes pregnant and expects taxpayers to support and entertain her kids.That's HER responsibility.

I, also, would not live in the city limits again, but would certainly consider something in the surrounding community. My friends there have beautiful homes and their kids are doing great.

AS Carondalens we have a right to be depressed and as Americans we have the right to complain and be depressed besides.
Our area is so in tangled with in taxes going up , utilities going up and gas for our cars and trucks going up and down,
and many, many other things that have tripled during the last year and a half.
And on top of all of this from Dickson city on up in to the upper vally areas there has ben no advance devlopment.
If some of us take a ride twenty miles from the greater upper vally you can see devlopment in other areas that are getting ahead.
You have to ask WHY.
We are the back bone of America and we have the right to be depressed ,
May be in some crazy way it makes us all stronger.
Because most of us work long hard odd hours for our money.
WE should be depressed where our money goes.
Because some of us are loseing our homes to taxes and paying out to other things besides.
Our local city goverments sucks us dry to the bone
until we can give any more.
Our Seniors are useing every penny they have to servive.
And some seniors are selling there last American dream there homes.
Depreessed Yes each and everyone of us across America have the right to be depressed ,
Jobs suck, the way we are force in to liveing sucks, and days of the end times and teeth of the beast have a hold on us all.
But we are Americans and we will stand tall like John Wayne.
And we will take it until we can not take any more
pilgrems and die in the process.
Because we believe in something stronger and that is the almighty God.
