Full story: Eureka Times Standard

In the past few days, Humboldt County has seen an increase in transients -- in town for 4/20, the unofficial marijuana holiday.

Great! You couldn't assemble a better group of poster children to promote the legalization of marijuana. Is Judge Marilyn Miles and Gallego's mj prosecuting (sic) attorney Maggie Flemming going to be special guests of honor?

Excellent examples of why the "anti-pot" movement is losing hugely!!!
Have you read these posts? Why not a meth-day? LOL!!
You guys keep up with the hating and really stupid comments and us freedom fighters can sit back and let you do the work for us: convincing the nation that only ignorant bigots oppose the legalization of marijuana.
Free the weed, happy 4-20 day.

Why aren't mass arrests ensuing? Lazy feds need to come in and do the work of the local law enforcement.

And to the potheads. Don't bother trying to justify your activities. What's illegal, is illegal regardless of local laws. Federal law prevails.

I think it's laughable the APD Chief Mendoza talks down about the 4/20 crowd. I would suspect the Arcata City Council will have a welcoming proclomation this week proclaiming the week of April 20th as "4/40 week".

Just another case of the "right" hand not knowing what the "left" hand is doing in Arcata.

There aren't mass arrests because you are IGNORANT of the law. Smoking weed in public amounts to a FINE (somewhere around $250) in Humboldt County. It's a misdemeanor for Christ's sake! Now, they can arrest all the dealers they want but 99% of the folks gathering to celebrate this day are just smoking what they already have- not dealing. They don't need the feds to make arrests! They just don't make arrests up at the park on 420 because any cop will tell you that you don't arrest someone when 3000 people around him disagree with you!

Have you seen the trash from the birders for Godwitt days? Go look at the marsh parking lot and community center. Not a lot of people giving them a hard time. Both are hobbies and dont impact anyone else... unless you are down wind. Those birders have nasty gas.
I think everyone should get really upset at a bunch of kids smoking grass. Maybe we should kill them like the other posters say? I mean everyone should have to wear Carharts and have have camo trucks, right? They call it dope because it makes you dumb, right?

Sounds like a good time to put some money into your church so you can keep hating others.

I just as soon celebrate at my own house, safe and sound, when I gotta pee I use a toilet not someone's yard on Fickle Hill, when I wanna eat I open the fridge, and when I wanna smoke a bowl and listen to the tunes I enjoy doing it in my own livingroom.
My advice is stay home if you have a home, have a party at your own house with your own invited guests and extra roll of TP in the bathroom.

Hope everyone stays safe, happy and healthy.
Happy 4-20, for me there's 'no special day' for that!!

As if this town/county didn't have enough bums/dreadies/druggies roaming the streets. I'm so sick of it. They have been ruining the asthetic of our lovely county. So great, why not have a festival celebrating pot (of all things), and draw more of them here? THAT's what we need! More smelly, unshowered hippies. Lovely.

Why not move it to Laytonville (a non-touristy area), where no one gives a sh!t what the town looks like?

Still trying to figure out why people feel the need to celebrate an illegal drug...

Ya, keep telling yourself that.. Just because you believe it, and have the best of intentions, doesn't make it so.

It's actually fact. It's not my fault you are ignorant. I've never been busted- but a good friend of mine was just hired on as a local LEO and I asked him before I posted (he's at my house right now) and he confirmed it: in Humboldt smoking weed is a misdemeanor. If you don't like it then the majority of the county would appreciate it if you just moved away. See, your elected officials are the ones making policy. The elected officials get their jobs through a vote. During this voting process that you're so obviously oblivious of, we count ballots and whoever has the most wins. Ipso facto- there are more people in this county that are happy with MJ use being classified as a misdemeanor than not. As it currently stands- you are just as much a criminal if you jay-walk than if you smoke herb. Sorry that you don't like it- but you live here and don't have to if you don't want to.

I would think that in the eyes of someone as hate-filled and ignorant as yourself, that it would be seen as a positive! See, if you move away, and more and more potheads move here- then there will be less potheads wherever it is that you move to! Win-win for everyone if you ask me.

My above comment was intended for this guy ^^^

...sorry about the douchebag fella. I agree that street-trash are douchey. They take away from those that are truly unfortunate enough to be homeless, and keep citizens from wanting to help the homeless because most of them are now homeless by choice!

with a strong police presence, tickets for all violators, the word would spread that they are not welcome, but as mentioned, the city counsel won't allow them to do their jobs; it's pretty bad when the police are handcuffed and the criminals are running free, but that's Arcata.

Unbelievable that a town would put up with these law breakers. There should be a cop on every corner to arrest the riffraff to discourage them from assuming that this is OK. It is hard to believe that thec authorities condone this, or are they afraid to make a stand? Disgraceful! It is too bad that such a beautiful town is mostly known for it's tweakers.

No surprise there. Most bums in our county are bums by choice, leaching off our goodwill. It make sense. Great views, great free food and services, lots of goodwill to exploit by naive people trying to change the world, not realizing they're being exploited by a constant flow of lazy hippies that see Humboldt County as a tourism destination.
Our truly local homeless lose out, less services for them. At some point you have to begin blaming the enablers for what they bring our county and how much they harm our truly local needy people. Shame on you.
