The main problem though is that it is heading dramatically off topic. We were finally getting a good discussion going (for once in one of these threads), when various people started derailing this into a sniping contest. Any chance of getting back on track?

I am sorry to see this thread turn into a petty insult war. Talking about gangs is a positive thing neighbors can do. Indicating to one another whether we see gang activity, sharing knowledge and support, etc.-- those things are within the power of forums like these.

I and a couple of other people have been noticing a lot of inscrutable new graffiti tags around town lately, including some people whose houses were tagged. Is it gangs? What does it mean, that our neighborhoods have been marked as someone's territory?

Is there anything we can do about it as a community? Maybe helping with cleanup? A couple just appeared in my neighborhood and my family intends to clean them up this weekend. Anybody notice any other new ones?

Yes there is something our community can do, we can take notice of all the activity, and report them. Then it may be a good ideal to read about them as they also grow with the times of evolution and change... It has been said that when a gang tagger places a tag on your house it is to challenge the other gangs to target that residence. In other cities it has caused drive by shootings and that is something we all want to avoid-

Document them every time you see them and over time you will get a better idea if they are gang related or not. Pay close attention to their associates, tattoos, colors, body language, and the date and time of your observations- You will then be able to recognize them even when they are dressed down-
