Hopefully the Eureka City Council will put the needs of the citizens of Eureka first and decide to not spend one penny or use one minute of thought or utter one syllable more about the unconstitutional youth protection act, after they act in closed session.

Hopefully, Eureka City Council will honor the vote of the majority of citizens and not give-in to the usual boisterous right-wing minority.

Eureka can join Arcata, in some fashion, at little or no cost.

Unconstitutional means unconstitutional change the law at the federal level not the local level. Don't waste time and money.

What if a measure was on the ballot in Eureka requiring the city to provide free water service within the city limits? Would the informed citizens support such a measure?

Just curious.

What the falsely labeled "Youth Protection Act" showed us was that we cannot assume the voters of Eureka are intelligent and informed.

We must make sure that any other loopy propositions brought forward by the counter-culture types, must be met with an informational campaign.

I laughed when I read that Ornelas (Arcata) said the justification for appealing the fed dist court judge's rejection of the Act was that they (Arcata) were deprived the ability to argue the case. No they weren't. They filed their pleadings and based upon the lack of any response to the constitutional argument posed by the government, there was no need for oral argument on the matter. Happens all of the time in the real world. I am just hoping that Eureka will show IT ISN'T AS STUPID AS THE MAJORITY ON THE ARCATA CITY COUNCIL.

Why, are the students educated in our government schools too stupid to think for themselves?

Any person under age 18 cannot join without a parents permission. No tolerance, trust or understanding indicated.

Are you kidding?

"Unconstitutional means unconstitutional"? HA HA! Like bombing 25 nations since WWII without Congressional Declarations of War???

Your analogy is idiotic, If there's no $$$ to provide water service it would disappear, just like the police disappeared from the beat they once walked, and the sewers are now overflowing... Obligations neglected long ago.

Are today's kids and their parents too stupid to find their way to the recruiting office?

If ROTC had a classroom on campus, it would be the only one actually hiding well-known truths about imperialism, and the inevitable failure of every other empire in history.

Could this be a reason enlistments are plummeting during a depression?

Schools? This was about keeping them out of schools? Don't think so. By that reasoning, we should keep out police? or fireman? or politicians?

Why? If it was a college recruiter would you feel the same way? But because it's a military recruiter they shouldn't be able to inform these 17 year olds what other options for a career, steady income and money for college are?
I'm a 44 year old veteran. I went into the military at age 17. One of the best decisions of my life. I was going the wrong way and probably would have ended up growing pot for a living or even worse. Bet there are a lot of kids right now on the same path. I see nothing wrong with letting kids know what their possible options are for their future whether it's a college recruiter or miltary recruiter. A person can't make informed decisions without being informed.

There will be plenty of time to be informed after they are 18. I'm glad you found your way in the military. So what. Big deal. Good for you. Big cheer for you. Just keep the recruiters out of our schools ... thats all.

Should be interesting to see what the minds of Eureka come up with, we already know there is no hope for the mindless in Arcata. Don't expect much from them but we'll see if they are up to watse money they don't have on something so ridiculous as this.

You definately live up to your user name.lol You don't offer any reasons for the recruiters to stay out of the schools, only a big...stay out. Personally I see your actions and desires as a diservice to kids rather than helping them. They are almost considered adults by the government and should be trying to act as such but people like yourself think they still need to be kept in the dark about future career or financial possibilities. What are you "REALLY" trying to protect them from?
And by the way...thanks for the smart alec comments about how the military helped me. You just showed your true colors.
