No big deal. It went downhill after Lee sold it.
Just a thought

I wondered what was up with that place. They stopped serving breakfast a few months ago and most people I know thought they were just too pricey for a diner and, like me, simply stopped going there.

I really like the food there. I always was looking forward during the weekends to visit Henderson Center, mainly Coney Island (of course laundry too). Its really sad to see something like happened.

It's a wonder there's any buisness at all in scumtown USA, Eureka has never amounted to anything and never will.

What next: Fresh Freeze be gone? V&N? Then Toni's? Then all we are left with is CorporateBurger. F that!

Humboldt Bay Sucks for a good greasy burger - the staple of us blue collar type hard working guys (and ladies), and the above named are the places to go for them.

It's been a sad year for LOCAL BUSINESS.
AND: I'll miss the chili !!
Boo!

Oh, don't even joke about Fresh Freeze closing!? Please! That's my first stop when I visit Eureka now. Jumbo cheeseburger...fries...cola... ideally, a banana milkshake...

Don't let the Redwood Curtain hit you in the arse on the way out then! Leave! We don't want people like you here anyway!
Not sad

I used to like Fresh Freeze. Now I have to wait 30 minutes just to get a meal there. It's ridiculous. I'll take inexpensive corporate burgers for a couple minute wait instead.... Unless Fresh Freeze can speed things up a bit.

I'm sorry about Steve's but it's not true that there are no good non-corporate burger places in HumCounty. Stars and Toni's in Arcata both have fantastic hamburgers. Stars serves H. County grass-fed beef on whole wheat buns, and at Toni's you get to watch them dig out a mound of really fresh burger meat and slap together your very own patty. And Toni's onion rings are to die for. Toni's is one of the last great old truck stop diners in this earth.(The pies! The cookies!) I'm too hungry to continue!!!

I used to love Coney Island before this new guy bought it. He limited the menu & it just wasn't as good.

In mentioning the few good places left in town, be sure not to forget Mikes !! Good chili dogs, burgers & the best garlic fries ever !

Who cares what all you "out of towners"
think.. I have eaten at Steve's my whole
life and it's sad to see it go whatever
the reasons are.. no more Shanghai Low
no more Steve's... I sure hope Mike's stays
in business!!! I will miss that good spicy
chile! and yes, there is always Toni's and
V & N but the chile at Steve's was THE best.

I started eating at Steves in the 50's when it was across the street in a trailer next to the bakery. I have been told that trailer belonged to Mike and Elsie Householder when they started Mikes Driveup in it on Broadway in 1946 where the Taco wagon parks on the theater lot.

Mikes is still my favorite and now my grandkids are hooked on the burgers and garlic fries. Frank and Sherry are great Americans. Lee Galoway was awesome also when she ran Steeve's...

I'm not sure it's actually scientifically possible, but I believe I'm tasting those Fresh Freeze jumbo burgers with my memory, you know?

I never note the wait time, although I hate waiting for a burger, because my head's spinning with memories when I go to the Fresh Freeze now.

Oddly...I lived up there for my entire life and moved at 43...and never ate at Mike's. It's on what's now a lot longer list of burger places I'll hit every time I go home. Folks here have clued me into new places.

Does anybody remember Little Joe's Drive-In that was down there around where Mike's is?

Their onion rings are the same as the restaurant that went out of business in Eureka, OH'S.
Please stay open Toni's.

well steves coney island has been there all my life,at one time it was a wonderful place to eat, breakfast, lunch,or dinner but within the past few years it has gone down hill extremely. thats to bad as i think fresh freeze has gone down hill as well. at one time those used to be the 2 best places to eat, then fresh freeze for the yummy ice cream cones,& shakes.one of my relatives was a very dedicated worker for the coney island off & on for many, years, however fred has not worked there for awhile now. thats to bad i hate to see the coney island leave. as there is alot of memories there.[post to forum]

WELL THATS A SHAME AS THE CONEY ISLAND USED TO BE A WONDERFUL PLACE TO EAT, IN ITS DAY, AS ITS BEEN GOING DOWN HILL, FOR AWHILE NOW. ALONG WITH FRESH FREEZE, THE 2 OLD HENDERSON CENTERS FINEST PLACE TO HAVE LUNCH.YAH FRESH FREEZE FOR THE YUMMY ICE CREAM TREATS, & CONEY ISLAND FOR THE CHILI FOOT LONG DOGS, & GARLIC FRIES. SO I BETCHA FRESH FREEZE WILL BE THE NEXT TO GO, AS THERE FOOD ,& ICE CREAM IS NOT AS YUMMY AS IT USED TO BE. OR EITHER IS THE FOOD AS A MATER OF FACT THE LAST TIME I ATE AT FRESH FREEZE, I LEFT MOST ALL OF MY FOOD BEHIND, AS IT WAS GROSS.SO IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME TO SEE FRESH FREEZE LEAVE NEXT.AS THEY MIGHT AS WELL CLOSE THERE DOORS OR GET A COOK IN THERE THAT NO-S HOW TO COOK.?????????
