(Retired) Bob Murphy was an excellent "home wrecker" with style!
Hire him back for at least two days a week.
He knew the area better than anyone.
But two weeks of neighbor complaints? Why so long to evict?
Some day their runaway camp fire will be a real wake up call.

Ummm the police have been told for months about the loose dogs and 100s of people camping in the "tent city" the "kids in the park" put up.

I personaly told a police officer, and a parking enforcement officer and was told they were not going to do ANYTHING about it.

Are you serious Downtown? Yes, Bob knew the area (I don't agree with better than anyone), but he also knew a lot of the long time homeless in Arcata. He used to be different with those long timers, but than he began to put the long timers in the same category as the many ignorant, violent, rude, and ruthless punks that would invade Arcata and wreck havok on it. He also became quite the smart-ass and I think retiring was what he needed to do. His feelings for one group of people would pour onto another group that had nothing to do with the group he was having issues with and when one can't differentiate between who it is that really needs to be screwed with or dealt with than they need to take a long break and put things back into perspective. The rest of what you said is a whole other story, but I won't go there because I have already gone on and on about Officer Bob Murphy.

Bobby used to be the top dog in the park until Ranger Bob came to town. He was a decent guy that never left the hippies alone. Maybe he liked them.

Hey, I was right on quoting "with style".
Attitude? Smart ass? Most all cops reaching retirement do get a little "sour" from being spat on from these "ruthless punks". Murphy did take a lot of crap from the lo-lifers while Bobby Lucas did not!
I was a ride-a-long with Murphy in the park a couple of times, you have no concept of the amount of Riff-Raff there + the environmental damage/mess left behind. It also seems a bit odd by checking IDs from these sleezeballs, most seem to slither in from the east coast. Hummmmm? Gee, what's here of interest to them? The mild winters or nice cops?

It was obviously Bush and Cheney and their gang of fascist, right wing Republican earth killers who were drunk on 50-year-old Scotch and thought they were in the Bohemian Grove. The Grateful Dead CD’s, bongs and gallon jugs of patchouli oil they left behind were obviously planted there to throw off the police and slander the good reputations of all the enlightened, liberal Earth First homeless people who live in Arcata.

Why didn't they hold the individuals who were there and have them clean up the area? This to me, seems to be a problem with these situations. You remove the problem, temporarily and clean it up; then the same people or others return to the site.

Have these individuals help with the restoration and cleanup a few times they might learn to take more responsibility, or move further away.

This is just another demonstration of our system doing the work for those not interested in taking responsibility for themself.

Boy, are you in the wrong place. Try a San Diego blog, you'll be more at home. These repeaters of left wing aLgoRe drivel hate people like you here. It embarrasses them because when they run out of the 3 or 4 sayings they've memorized that their pastors, professors, whatever have taught them; it's still religion because you have to believe in it, then they just spout leftly acceptable hate speak. IE.: "please won't anyone do something for the children?" (Like give the lazy ass teachers a raise.)
You are just an unenlightened bigot fascist.

How long ago was Lucas top dog of the redwoods? I have known Officer Lucas since I was 14 and I am almost 32 and I have never known of him being a ranger. He was a regular police officer. Also, in response to him not leaving the hippies alone because he liked them, you are absolutely right. He respected people and he didn't judge. So I know he enjoyed hanging around the plaza talking with them along with all the punk teenyboppers, such as myself. He never had a powertrip because of his job, unlike a lot of the cops that have become a part of the APD throughout the years. Ranger Bob was also like that before he became ranger.

You give me a vision of homeless wanderers, happy wayfarers of the present day, loaded down with all the crap they have dumped onto the ground of our home towns, forced by something more powerful than themselves to remove the garbage and take it with them as they remove themselves from our fair corner of the earth. This vision is brought to you courtesy of a couple glasses of medicinal wine, and not by even a single puff of that noxious weed everybody else around here seems to be smoking.

Are you saying this because you assume it's a racist statement? Bobby Lucas is tough on crime and he is (was, because he was fired) a God awful police officer. I'll assume you made your statement because you assumed the previous poster is racist. I did not report Bobby Lucas for being a horrible police officer simply because I did not want to look racist. He showed up after I dialed 911 for a domestic assault and took the abusers side over mine because he did not like my tears. He literally said that if I did not stop crying he would put me in jail, "where nobody will hear your drama." At the time I did not know that my teeth were chipped from the force of my abuser pushing my mouth so hard with his own hand to muffle my cries for help. People who get beat up by those they love tend to cry. He showed up after good police officers were talking about kicking my ex out of our shared home so I could get my stuff and leave. Bobby Lucas came into the picture after this talk, threatened the neighbors who helped me, and threatened me with jail if I spoke at all. He is a piece of shit and if he was white, I would have called to complain about him. But my fear of coming off as racist overtook me, and because of it I'm sure others suffered by his bad policing. But he was eventual fired and/or transferred. People like you make me feel like I'm walking on eggshells in Arcata. Even though my oldest sister is adopted and half black.
