Ohio Revised Code 3313.642 clearly states that a school district may not charge a fee to students who qualify for free or reduced lunches. Extra curricular activities excepted. Does requiring the purchase of supplies to be pooled and used by all students circumvent this law? Students who don't bring in the supplies are put in a position of humiliation and often have no way to rectify the problem. Children should not suffer because of parents not buying tissues or computer paper. There is a class system like in the 1700s.
Thomas Jefferson proposes a two-track educational system, with different tracks in his words for "the laboring and the learned." Scholarship would allow a very few of the laboring class to advance, Jefferson says, by "raking a few geniuses from the rubbish." Amazing!! If you are aware of this happening report it to the State Auditor 8002820370. Also to the Ohio Department of Education and the ACLU.
