Hello
|
Hello to all yes Dr's are leaving Riverview and so are patients!! Riverview is very expensive....My son was there for 3 days and his stay was $40,000 but yet he went to clarion it was only $20,000 of a week and it had the same problem both times.
Dr Terpstra left cause his ability to be a good Dr or well inapproiate interactions. Figure it out. I have been a resident of Noblesville for 28 years now and Terpstra use to be at my dr's office and I am so glad that he left many years ago....I would not go see him nor would I allow my children to see him. Well I probably wouldn't let my dog go to him..........

CFO Candidate

CFO Candidate wrote: I found this thread by googling Riverview hosptial. I am thinking of pursuing the CFO job. Wow I may have to rethink, sounds like huge strategic and leadership issues. I did the same google search, after seeing this position posted online. After reading this, doing some of my own research, and talking to a colleague at an Indy area hospital, I'm steering clear of this place. I was told years ago to stay away from county hospitals. Too often, the board members are usually smart enough people, but they are political appointments who know nothing about running a hospital. Sounds like this is the case here as well.

Couldn't agree more about County Hospital Boards. I suspect that Riverview's board is not much different from most county hospital boards. Looking at their website and googling the board members doesn't give me any reason to believe that any of these individuals, asude from the physicians, should even be on such a board. County hospital boards should be elected, not appointed.

CIO gone. VP Support Services gone. When does accountability hit the CEO? Does this board have a clue? Or is this another inept county hospital board, like so many others?

Would not fire employee
|
Rumor is that Porter would not fire the Controller, as requested by the CEO. Thus, he was asked to resign, and subsequent to his resignation, the Controller was also dismissed.
Knowing Jim as I do, I can believe this to be true. He'd go to bat for his employees, and it shows. He is missed at Riverview. It was good to see him this week when he was at the hospital with his wife.

I guess everyone can't run 10 miles every day like she does. She looks down on everyone who don't run marathons like she does. Nobody ever liked her. Even more now that Jim & Tracy are gone. I can't get any answers from our interim CFO and Controller. The service out of Fiscal Services now is a joke. All that Jim and Tracy did has fallen apart. These interim guys need to go. And I bet they're costing us a fortune.

The question of the cost of the interim CFO and Controller is one that should be asked. An unnecessary expenditure, to say the least. Neither Porter nor Nagel should be gone. Our hospital has taken more than 2 steps backward in this deal. And I don't see us moving forward for some time.

It is unbelievable how this place has changed since Jim left. Those of us who work in his area dread coming to work. One of our Staff Accountants has already left because he can't stand the stress. I think we're all looking for a new job, because our interim CFO and interim Controller are horrible to work with. The amazing thing is how much we are paying for their time with us. Riverview is being robbed by these guys. And it's all so unnecessary. Our best years were the years that Jim Porter was our CFO, and they got better when he brought in Tracy as the Controller.

Those of us who know Jim through the HFMA know that he got screwed. I can tell you that none of us in the Indiana HFMA chapter who know him will pursue this position. I'm hearing bad things about the future of Riverview.

As I read the comments on this blog, I am somewhat surprised at the negativity that is flowing, while also appreciative of the comments that are supportive of me. Let me weigh in by saying that I have tremendous respect for the Board of Trustees at Riverview Hospital, as well as for the executive leadership, management and staff. They are all doing their jobs to provide quality healthcare to the residents of Hamilton County.
To those of you saying that the County does not need a hospital owned by the County, I ask, why not? This is a tremendous service to the residents of Hamilton County. And obviously, something is "right" about this hospital, otherwise St. Vincent and Clarian would not be building facilities in Noblesville and Fishers to compete with Riverview. The County Commissioners seem to be doing a darn good job of running our County. Our county continues to grow, and with that comes more competition from outside. All the more reason that the hospital that YOU own as citizens of Hamilton County should be the hospital that you use. The profits generated at Riverview are reinvested at Riverview, here in Hamilton County. The profits from other systems are not kept here in Hamilton County, but are spread out over the other hospitals' systems.
The Board, which is appointed by the Commissioners, is very committed to the success of Riverview. These people essentially volunteer their time to serve our community. We should be appreciative of all that they do. Riverview Hospital has successful businessmen and women on the Board and committed physicians, all with one goal, and that is to be able to provide quality healthcare to the community.
Any individuals who are candidates for the CFO position, I would encourage you to contact me. You can get my email address through the HFMA. I have spoken to one individual who was pursuing this position, and I'd be happy to speak with others. Do not let the comments on this blog steer you away from Riverview. It is an excellent hospital, and the community of Noblesville is a great place to live!
To those of you who worked with me at Riverview, I appreciate your support. Please continue to work hard serving the people of Hamilton County. I would like to still be there to help implement some of the initiatives that we were starting in the revenue cycle, but I'm not. Just keep moving forward.
I enjoyed the people at Riverview Hospital, and am pleased with the successes that we accomplished.

Jim Jim, While I admire what you have written, and know that you are an honest, intelligent quality individual, there is no hiding the fact that you are the scapegoat in this whole situation. We all miss working with you and Tracy, and know that you should still be our CFO. Things are changing around here, there's no doubt about that. Hopefully our next CFO will have at least half the class, intelligence, integrity, and fun that you have. We miss you! Good luck!

Jim, You're a good man. Better than Pat Fox deserves, quite hoenstly.
I always enjoyed working with you at Riverview. Your message above shows the class and dignity that you are all about. Best of luck to you. Hopefully our paths will cross again someday.

The only posting on this entire board that has an ounce of truth in it is Jim's. I worked with Jim and Tracy and continue to work with the interim CFO and Controller.
I have the highest regard for Jim, but I think he will be the first to tell you that it was time for him to go. I suspect he would have made the same decision if he was the CEO or on the board.
The interim CFO and Controller are well respected individuals who do a good job in coming in with short term solutions (they will be the first to tell you that is their job).
Pat is well respected and the idea that she would look down on someone because they are out of shape is laughable.
There are a lot of great things happening at Riverview but it is not the sleepy little hospital it was 10 years ago. We had to wake up and compete with the big boys.
Good Luck Jim, hopefully I will see you next time you are at the hospital.

AHN docs are going to be bought by Clarian, so those patients will be gone. The Board wasted their $$$ buying the unnecesary Kahlo property. Seems to me that the change needs to be the CEO. Question - why does Hamilton County still own a hospital? We have 2 hospitals in Carmel, a new one coming to Fishers / Noblesville. Shouldn't the county sell Riverview? Our county government does not need to own a hospital. Great post for an old guy! Seriously, what is going on at our hospital? Some of the stuff is just too unbelievable to post on the internet. The best days at work were the days I got to see Jim. I'm not alone in my dislike for Larry around here. Ever heard that a carrot works better than a stick? Larry is so obviously out for Pat Fox's job. She needs to go, but he's not the answer.

Wherever he ends up,they're lucky to get him.
