I am a parent of a WHS student that did come to me in regard to Tyisha Brown's death. This is so sad. She was apparently not being supervised. Her grandparents were not supervising, neither mom or dad? Clue? She was missing for 3 weeks; no one spoke to police or, filed a report on her. Sad!! If you do not have the energy to raise a child....let someone else do the task. There are people who are in love with children, and would gladly take them in. I read a article earlier about the 15 yr. old boy, who committed the first drug offense of the yr. Besides his mother being not supervising for her own challenging reason, face the fact we have some folks here also that just are too lazy to do what they should being doing with the children. It about disciplining. Please, no kicking, beating, and whipping. Try....Programs; Discussions; and Counseling. Give parents and excusable day from work to check on their kids. Make it mandatory to follow-up. Does the city need to recall the parents for the kids sake. Let's take back our children.

Another tragic event at Woodlawn High School!!!! Mr. Ken Miller you are good at public speaking great job with covering the truth. I guess you put the letter in the mail last night????? You said the parents received letters about this incident? When Ken? Where are the couselors??? The children are couseling each other and running the gang school as if you and your crew are not there. You gave the SUN the letter but you forgot to mail it to the parents. What a cover up!!! This should have been on the WIRE not Baltimore City Schools.

I haven't gotten a letter, either. My son has not been counseled; not once. The children are talking about it and tearing. My son could not sleep last night. He said it was so sad, and that children were upset at Woodlawn. They don't undrstand. Baltimore County AEO needs to correct this. Our children are being exploited. Why are children turning to gangs? Is it because they show them a sense of belonging. Why was she not home. This is a problem. Not only did this child go thru this, but children all over who are alone; one reason or another are going thru it. I have a cousin who is 13 yrs. old and has been locked up twice since his father died. He is now living with his grandmother who does not supervise or discipline him. The courts never did an investigation to find out how he was feeling, or if the grandmother was ever involved in his life before the father's death. The kids are running all over and she is at the bank cashing checks.

Thisis amazing!!! The letter went to the students in their 7th period classes. From there, the letter should have came home to their parents. How backwards is that...some students did not receive the letters. Are we that poor that we can't afford stamps? ONLY WOODLAWN!!!

I know money is a concern but all it takes is one person to care about these children to make a difference. I think this is a task for the major to find a solutions for this problem of children with parent who are bad influences for their children.I think if a parent of a teen who is in trouble needs to have a background check on them that way... we can take this children away from bad environments and give them a chance to see how real people live. Drugs dealing and doing drugs are a cop out for today's problems. These children need to learn how to deal with people and problems the correct way. I know the Wire is a television show but most of the children actors represented the "Throw Away Children" in the Baltimore area and many others across the country. Instead spending money on wars and highly paid political figures.. we need to take that money and spend it on an agency for children who want a better way of life and for those children who do not know any other way to live besides drugs and other criminal behavior. Maybe our society is to blame because most of us adults are saying " It's not my child" but that child lives in our society and our towns, we as adults need to lend a hand to those of us who are struggling to be a good parent or just offer to be a friend to these kids and tell them this is not the way to live but live a godly way, with hopes and dreams, legally and healthy.

Well...I would also like to say as a student at Woodlawn i find it sad as well. I knew Tyiesha and was trying to help get her grades up because she was always telling me that she wanted to go to college. I must say that they way her life ended was a tragedy. She was trying to make a change yet her life was taken away in such a precious moment. I am always a very encouraging person and I had always hoped for the best for her. There is no need to blame anyone for anything...the best thing is to remember her in her death. I will always remember her for the energetic person she was...and the change she was trying to make. Tyiesha will be missed by many of the Woodlawn High School students.

It ashamed that we have parents and grandparents like this in the workd that they don't care where are their family values. And I want to say to the person who did this to the this child " i hope you burn in he__ because you going to pay and parents and grandma I hope the laws does something to you also This is really messed and I hope this gives you awake up call (Tyisha God Rest your sole you are at home with someone that cares god bless you and may you rest in peace )

I am a senior at HOODLAWN HIGHSCHOOL AKA WOODLAWN HIGHSCHOOL this is very sad us as young people it seems like we just dont learn we all heard about tyishas death and we hear it is gang related but yet we still want to be apart of gangs its stupid people are walking around the school with their flags and shirts with Tyishas name on it and still repping being apart of a gang we need to look at our kids pay attention to what they are wearing when they leave the house they might say they are not apart of a gang but they are not going to tell you kids are wearing red a lot or blue something is going on and if ur a parent and u dont see anything wrong with ur child being apart of a gang something is wrong with you. God is just giving us signs to scare the lights out of us so that we can wake up and stop being stupid but we dont learn because any time people are talking about going to the funeral and having a shoot off we have not learned. talk to your kids please.

I think that it is sad for this girl to live with people who don't even care about her.For her to be so young why did'nt she have a curfew even though it was a Friday but so what after a certain amount of hours of being outside 12:30 my child would be in the house. Her mother and grandmother and the principal are all to blame. The principal for one not sending notices or making phone calls to her house for not showing up in school. The mother for knowing that she was suppose to have her daughter, and the grandmother for not calling her parents house to make sure she was safe. I would just go crazy to find out that my daughter died because of my carelessness of not being a parent,a grandparent, and a principal.

As a young adult, I feel the society need to focus on the youth more, everyday you hear about another child dying. It's sad that someone life have to be taking for people to realized life is not a joke. Children theses days need their parents more than anything. Parents are put here to guide youth thru everything no matter what. Parents need to communicate with their child more, because whether you know it or not your child face a struggle everyday. Praise a child when they do good so they can feel that tender love and care. Children are turning to the streets for the love, thinking that the streets are going to love, care, or even holding them down on their bad days. Thats not their job it the parent's job. The school system needs to wake up and stop sleeping on theses children because they hold the future. Parents don't send their children to school to play and join gangs, they expect the teachers and staff, to do their job and teach them and prepare them for the world. Teachers and staff need to notify parents if they see susipision and a child actions. And stop saying your not a babysitter, because your not, you are saving another child from losing their life to the streets. I can go on forever, face the fact this world need a change and the change need to start now before we lose another doctor, lawyer, police officer, judge, firefighter, etc.
R.I.P Tyesha
