'The Arctic is screaming,' expert says

An already relentless melting of the Arctic greatly accelerated this summer, a warning sign that some scientists worry could mean global warming has passed an ominous tipping point.

The sooner there is a president who understands science and realises an economy is nothing if based on a crumbling environment - the better.

If you think a subprime housing meltdown is one thing - wait til we see coastal properties (where huge sums of money are tied up) nose dive once people know they will be underwater in decades. You buy with an eye to one day sell or pass on to your children and you know prospective buyers after you will think the same, so even if a property will go under the sea in a century from now, that will start to impact on price.

Here in Australia we ditched Howard and now have a leader in Rudd who takes climate change seriously. Australia's change of stance meant the USA was the only odd one out of 200 nations at the Bali conference on dealing with climate change.

The Arctic is screaming line should be all the warning open-minded bright people need to realize the level of discourse regarding global warming has reached frightening levels. "Ice is melting, EVERYBODY PANIC" doesn't leave a whole lot of room for reasonable discussions.

This isn't the first time, nor will it be the last, that the arctic has warmed. 600 years ago vikings were growing corn in the arctic, must have been all those factories burning fossil fuels during the 11th century that caused that warming, right?

There STILL isn't any evidence that the warming temperatures are being caused by human activity. They STILL can't get any of their computer models to even come close to predicting actual temperature patterns on the ground. The recent circle jerk in Bali wouldn't even allow people to attend who didn't fully believe that humans are the cause of all the worlds ills.

One more thing, the arctic is melting but the ice sheet in the antarctic is growing at a phenomenal rate...EVERYBODY PANIC! The ANTARCTIC IS SCREAMING a warning that it's only a matter of time before we're hit with another ice age.

The arctic is already about as warm as it was back then, the issue isn't now but the future if warming continues.
There STILL isn't any evidence that the warming temperatures are being caused by human activity.
Except for all that evidence that the warming temperatures are being caused by human activity.
They STILL can't get any of their computer models to even come close to predicting actual temperature patterns on the ground.
They've done well at predicting the magnitude of the last 20 years of warming.

You folks do know that the Greenland melt is due to magma seeping upward, and not pollution, dontcha?

I'm still not ready to hide under Al's Prius with the Goreacle as of yet.

When was it you heard the Australia was going to have to pay for most of whatever steps were taken to battle global warming? Are you volunteering to pay for it?

It's called cycles folks and the planet has been warming and cooling for billions of years. It's so arrogant to think for a second that we are having such an impact as to be the root cause of any warming (or cooling). Every hear of volcanos? How about the big oven in our sky (aka The Sun). Do you think it is temperature regulated to never vary more than 1 degree from day to day? If it warms up, so do we (and all the other planets too). Please ask yourself some common sense questions and don't just swallow the fear-mongering (and job protecting) people promoting this nonsense. Use the brain God gave you to ask questions and get the real information.

"Researchers calculated that the melted Greenland ice would cover Washington DC half a mile deep." Covering DC with half a mile of water is a good idea, but not very practical!

Wow! Interesting he ignores the October report from NASA stating unusual wind patterns caused reduction in ice....hmmm.
http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingatear...
Greenland also used to have much warmer temperatures than now. Why is this unusual?

I believe global warming is happening due to mankind. Hopefully it's not to late to save the world as we know it. It all happened from greed from manufacturing plants, auto companies, oil companies, logging, the list goes on. GREED WILL DESTROY THE EARTH.

I've read that this year's unusual arctic melt was due to some unusual weather conditions that parked stationary fronts sucking warm air up to the Arctic. So next year should be more "normal". Nonetheless, arctic ice cover is steadily declining almost 10% per decade since 1979. Ice gone by 2012 highly unlikely.

Climate change is an inevitable part of living in a our Earth, that is a "living planet". These changes allowed the American Continent to be setteled, and probably was one of the reasons for the Human Dominance of the Earth Creatures.
These changes are influenced by many factors ,both Human and not human as well as physical and chemical factors.
Nature changes does not take into account Human preferences. Changes like always will benefit some areas and will hurt others. The same can be said for the different animal species.
I doubt that there is much We can do to prevent changes that are breweing for many years.
I am glad that finally humanity could take concious of the fragility of the Earth, the importance of looking at Her as a " living Thing ", and may be a new religion could emerge that will have " Mother Earth " at the center.

I believe I read somewhere that if all the ice melted sea levels would rise 23 feet. Well here some scientists are saying that in 4 years all the sea ice will have melted but no mention of the seas rising, till some future specified date, by some future unspecified amount, making one wonder if the scientists are not making up these forecasts as they go along. If they want the public to respond to their predictions in the future they must excersize restraint when making them and issue conservative estimates, or refrain from saying anything definite. Otherwise they are undermining their credibility and neither the public nor politicians are going to pay them any mind.

I have sources, do you?

"But clues to a new natural contribution to the melt arose when scientists discovered a thin spot in the Earth’s crust under the northeast corner of the Greenland Ice Sheet where heat from Earth’s insides could seep through, scientists will report here this week at a meeting of the American Geophysical Union. Fat Al has something to gain form this. The british (small b intentional)were with this then suddenly bailed, for some reason, must not have been enough money - or the would have had to do something more than stand back and howl. The faux education system has brought about the ability for this nonsense to be believed. Watch out if you hear a chicken say"...The sky is...." Same thing.

It's a total misinterpreation to claim that supports greenland ice melt is due to magma and not global warming. The very first sentence makes it clear enough.

It is too late... run for the hills. No use getting angry... if man made global warming is true, China and India will ensure plenty of pollution occurs to take us well beyond the tipping point.
