Right on, CHP, keep pulling them over! I've been waiting for this law to finally take affect, should have implemented it two years ago. And for the cigarette out the window, a really big ticket.

as a commerical driver I see soooo many near misses while driving on Hwy 1 and 17...Please ---put down the cell and focus on the road ..they don't call it the "Death Hwy" for nothing...as far as the law enforcement not "having anything better to do" I'm sure they would rather be cleaning up the mess from your accident instead..use your head people..get to where your going safe....and spare us the frustration..

Glad to see that the CHP is serious about this new law.
Driving will still be dangerous, but it will be better without all of the gabbing on the phones constantly. People fall into a trance when they are engaged in discussing the latest game or dress while they are driving. I hope that the penalties keep going up and up. Once the cities and other local tax spenders realize what a great source of revenue this will be, go for it.
I had to use my call phone for work from 1984 till I retired. It was a great day when I got rid of it. I now have a phone in the car for emergencies only. I pay for 12 months service and I hope that I never have to use it.
There is that old saying.
" Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should." They were talking about Cell Phones and cars when they said this.

The police were in full force all over the City of SC and City of Capitola yesterday. Tons of motorcycle cops and people pulled over all day long. Police are going about cracking down on everything the wrong way with what little tourists we have this 4th of July. Scaring them all away isn't necessarily a good thing.
If the police just stepped up their crap everyday instead of letting things go all the time then they wouldn't be needing to pull what they did yesterday. Although it was nice to see the police finally pulling over tons of bicycle riders!

I love my cell phone, I love my SUV, and guess what I will pay, pay and pay. But no law will stop me...you speed..I talk...this after all is the land of the free home of the hairy airpitted liberals transplanted and far from local...so if you can see in my SUV than I deserve a ticket. I'm right there with the guy..."don't you have anything better to do?" Seriously, we have CA on fire, 4th of July coming up, unlicensed, unregisterd cars all over the roads, unsafe lane changes, tail gaters, hmm...smart drivers all over. Get a life but I wil STILL CHAT IT UP!

I'm supprised anyone would find Grant Boles doing any work. He's one of the Lazy Cops in the County. Spends most of his time hiding out on Portola Dr. or 41st Ave. where we have Overlapping Services. This way he can do less instead being on the Highways where needed.

Well, can't talk on the cell. Let's see. Can still eat a Big Mac, read the map, change the CD and mind my dog in the front seat. Got to keep my mind off of $4.55 a gallon.

"I've seen numerous fatalities caused by distracted drivers" Do we need a laws covering each of the distractions Mr. Boles has observed? No, there are all acts of negligence. Twenty dollars times 15 citations equals $300. Officers time writing tickets at $50 per hour and 1/2 hour to write each ticket equals $1,250. Governmental economics.

he let the guy go who dropped a cig butt on the ground...great, phone violation, litter violation, but honesty pays. i don't mind the cell violators, but the litter bug needs to pay.

Try this. Put your garage door opener up to your ear and just hold it there. When he pulls you over kindly tell him "No officer, i was not talking on my cell phone, I was holding my garage door opener to my ear. Is that illegal?" I know it sounds dumb but this whole law is dumb. I can drinka soda while I drive right. Or should I use "a hands free device" like a 2 foot straw?! I can prop my elbow up on the edge of my door and steer with my right hand alone. Not illegal. Shoot I can eat a burrito, change the CD, fumble with a lighter all the time cruising 55. Studys have proven it's not the phone to your ear thats distracting. It's the phone conversation itself that slows your reaction time and causes problems. Just look at the idiot trannys cruising west cliff while they point out the boardwalk, lost is some pretntious conversation with their grandma. This is just a cash cow for the CHP, the state and the bluetooth industry. The article states the ticket is $20 but in the end it costs you $75. Where do you think the rest of those "fees" are going, the state people. what a total waste of this cops life. I bet he became a cop to help people and now he's a glorified metermaid!
