ah yes the well healed homeowners that my friend Downtowner aspires to be. This is a demonstration that you don't have to be hispanic or homeless to illustrate the inherent evil that is in every body. I really want old downtowne to explain how just homeless and hispanics are all bad.

nice choice of boyfriend, mom! You sound like a wonderful role model. On the flip side bless you girls who defended yourselves and your friends against this monster.

They are not tweakers--none of them are. These ARE the good kids. The one that was drinking was the man--I'm not even sure the mom was--but none of the teens were drinking. I know the girl that got clubbed with the frying pan, and she arrived at the party a little after midnight. Burnett was starting to act weird, and most of the 8-10 people who had attended the party had either left or fallen asleep. Only three of the teens were still awake, including my friend, and they realized that Burnett was starting to act weird. He was acting threateningly toward the mom, so the girls stayed awake to make sure she wouldn't be by herself, because the girls thought that Burnett would hurt her. All heck broke loose around 5-5:30 when Burnett started beating on the mom and the girls intervened on her behalf. None of the girls were drinking or using--like I said, the only person who was under the influence for certain was Burnett. And as far as the mom, she IS a great role model. She threw a small, quiet bbq for her 19-year-old daughter. Good food, cake, dancing--no alcohol, no drugs, and kept her daughter and her friends at home instead of letting them party in downtown Santa Cruz. And all of the kids there have known each other since elementary or middle school. They've grown up together and are NOT the ones that drink and smoke pot. The only person who screwed up was Burnett, and I hope he gets what's coming to him.

You don't know who these people are or what you are talking about. The woman is a person who has always made bad choices in her life and is a bad influence for all of those around her. I'm not saying the children are white trash meth heads, but the mother definately has fault in the situation and her life choices. |

none of you people know what the F*CK you are talking about. shut the f*ck up and stop making stupid ass judgements. you need to do some research for yourselves and get your facts straight. how dare you judge people when something this horrible happened. they only person at fault was that insane lunatic.

The only two girls I can truthfully defend are the two that were injured--one with a slash to her face with a broken bottle, the other had her head split open with a frying pan and had it stapled shut in the ER.
The woman who was thrown off the balcony may have made bad choices in her life--I don't know her. But I know the two girls, and they are GOOD girls who did the right thing for the right reasons. The girl who got smacked with the frying pan has disassociated herself from people that drink and use. Based on the caliber of people she calls her friends, I would have no reason to believe that the woman who threw the party would be any less admirable a woman than the victim herself. And as far as people saying you need to do research, go ahead. Do research. All I need to do is talk to one of the victims--which I've done--and it pretty much settles it for me. I did do a little research on the man, though. Greg Burnett was an occupational therapist and his license was revoked one year and suspended another--2004 and 2005. Anything else you need to know? Go find it and share what you can. |

"Fracas"!?(Def: A noisy quarrel.)
People were stabbed and tossed off of balconies. Are you kidding me Sentinel writers???!!! Use correct language to truly describe the incident in your headlines. It appears you're trying to sugar coat this extremely violent incident in Aptos. Here's a more accurate version. "APTOS: MAN STABBED TWICE IN EARLY MORNING ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND." I can only imagine the headline if these folks were Latino. I imagine the words "suspected gang member" would be somewhere in there. The Sentinel plays down white violence as routine domestic problems and spins anything south of Buena Vista as "gang related." If it happens in Watsonville, it's "gang violence." If it happens in sleepy little Aptos, it's "Birdthday Party Fracas." Gimme a break Sentinel Staff. You folks need to grow some "huevos" and report the news accurately and fairly. |
