it was proble a member of the forces family member who hit the child or a local business person!! If it was a normal person we would of gotten a ticket!!!!

Well I for one cannot WAIT to hear the officer's reasoning for NOT issuing a ticket to this driver! There was a clear violation here and a child was injured and now there's going to be mental trama of being hit by the car - so...this story of his must be really good! Can't wait to hear it!!

As a parent of 3 children I dont think I would let a 7 year old cross that busy Hwy 7 alone on a bike and where were the little boys bike helmets....never seen them on at all during the story???

The kids had an older sibling with them who was behind them. As for the helmet, they didnt have them on....still that is no excuse for a car hitting them in a cross walk!!! Its no different if they were dont need helmets for that!!!

Bikers are suposed to obey the rules fo the road just like a car. They are not pedestrians! If the driver had hit a pedestrian or if the boy was walking his bike, they probably would have gotten a ticket. Yes, people need to be careful and you need to stop for others when you are driving.

Where was the adult supervision here? Two kids that young shouldn't be crossing the highway by themselves the way it is.

as was stated earlier the kids had two older siblings with them who were more than capable than watching them. And yes they need the helmets but does that mean they deservred to get hit. i dont think so. As for following the law, the story didnt state that the kids were waiting at the cross walk and a truck stopped, as the sign says, and waved them accross. So when it comes to the laws of crossing the road, they were in the right. And really why are you worried about what a pedestrian is....does that mean they should not use the cross walk and walk accross the road!!! I dont think so!!! Cross walks are for anyone trying to get accross the road weather bike, walking, or skateboard. The driver should have yield. Its hard to believe that parents would blame the kids here!!!

OK. So. This is a bunch of people who were not on the scene of the crime talking. Why don't you let the police do there job. For 1. The driver of the vehicle was NOT a relative of any member of the police force. 2. There was NOT "older siblings" watching these children. and 3. The children are a bit young to be crossing a busy highway alone, let alone not obeying the law. If the driver has to obey cross walk laws, so do the children.

The child, the childs parents, AND the driver of the vehicle are at fault. Lets let the police do their job, and not let people who just want to be on tv think they know what they are talking about. Especially if we cannot spell correctly when attempting to make a point.

yes...there was older siblings there!!! lets not state facts you dont know!! The point can be made spelled correctly or not and if thats all your worried about......Thats your problem!!!! As for tv another citizen called it in and if it wasnt worth their time they would have not done the story!!! How were they not obeying the law??? They waited like they were suppose to according to three other people who saw the accident???

This is exactly why i no longer live in that town cause if you are not a good ol boy you are nothing. Therefore when it comes to the police force it does matter what your name is and I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT!!!!!!!!Dont tell anyone any different!! I remember a few years ago at the rodeo in appleton a clown stated it correctly and I quote "All the police officers of this town need to go get vaccinated at the hospital cause THEY cant track a herd of elephants in a fresh snow" end qoute

To "Learn the Truth"
First, you may by one of the local cops if you know more facts then anybody else here.
Second, you act cowardly hiding behind a fictitious name.
Then, making comments about people spelling, shows how ignorant you are as you pointed "Especially if we cannot spell correctly when attempting to make a point" shows that you have a serious superiority complex. The spelling is not the point here. Do you get the point?
Button line, if you are a cop, you are also a disgrace. Learn your laws. I had worked part time as a police officers with exceptional officers, and I have seen many which are not wordy of calling themselves "Police Officers"
Ok, here it is "some law"
Minnesota law requires you "Drivers" to stop for pedestrians in ANY crosswalk, "marked" or "unmarked", where there are no traffic controls present.(169.011 and 169.21)
Obey all posted speed limits
Give children, the elderly, and the disabled plenty of time to cross as they may move slowly.
Use extra caution around school bus loading zones and school areas, as children may dart out from between parked vehicles
Look for pedestrians at all intersections, especially when urning.
Never pass a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk.
Never pass a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk.
Lets stop the argument here, because we all know that the local police "Appleton" does wherever they want, they will never go back in their decision and issue at list a citation for inattentive driving.
Subdivision 1.Driver to stop for accident with individual.

The driver of any motor vehicle involved in an accident resulting in immediately demonstrable bodily injury to or death of any individual shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident, or as close to the scene as possible but shall then return to and in every event shall remain at the scene of the accident, until the driver has fulfilled the requirements of this section as to the giving of information. The stop must be made without unnecessarily obstructing traffic.

And more...

Subd. 8.Officer to report accident to commissioner.

A peace officer who, in the regular course of duty, investigates an accident that must be reported under this section shall, within ten days after the date of the accident, forward an electronic or written report of the accident as prescribed by the commissioner of public safety.

Subdivision 1. Violation. No person may operate or halt a motor vehicle upon a highway inattentively, imprudently in light of circumstances then existing, or without exercising reasonable care for the rights of others or the safety of persons or property.
Subd. 2. Driver education curriculum. The class D driver education curriculum must include instruction on a driver's duty to comply with subdivision 1 and on the penalties for violation of subdivision 1, including possible enhancement to a misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor, or felony under section 169.89.

Thank you for publishing this. Summer requires extra care by drivers with school out and library programs. This is a busy wide street to cross even by an adult. Thank you for the vidio. I can see Michael is going to be ok in time.
