It's like everything else in Southwest Virginia. The state government could care less and give the people there little more than lip service. The local government has proven to be little more than money grubbing power brokers and have taken a lot more from the people than they have ever given back. As far as the state is concerned if you're not from Roanoke or East you're a dumb hillbilly and don't exist. The people of Southwest Virginia deserve better than that.

I have to drive through Big Stone everyday....the town looks like a giant just stomped on an entire section of the community....In the middle of all this destruction I saw a home barely standing with a hugh X on it but the owners are flying an American flag...it shows the spirit of the people. My thoughts and prayers are with the town and for the promise of a better time. We "hillbillies" are pretty tough bunch.....and I have a question...living in Dryden as I do...where was the warning on the TV or Radio of even a Tornado watch....Hmmmm

Terri it just happen to fast plus sometimes where the tornados are happening the radar can not see. When the storms was forming the radar could pick some rotation close to LCV. Some people in LCV seen the storm coming together before it got to BSG. Radars can only do so good on this like this.

I think that people in the surrounding towns and cities should pull together during a situaton like this one. Also all the churches in our community should as well pray for the homes and the families that were involved in this tornado. God bless them all is my prayer and remember there is hope when there seems to be no hope and that hope can only be found in Jesus Christ.

I live in BSG and live walking distance to the hadest hit area. Even now, two months later, people are out everyday trying to fix what they had. Where are all the volunteers now. Volunteers only stayed in the area for maybe a week but that's it. As far as WCYB's intro goes when it they talk about "We were here to warn you before the storm"..yeah right. There was no warning at all. That intro makes me mad everytime i hear it. the radio stations didn't even start broadcasting about the tornado until the next day. Now it seems everyone has forgotten.

Go to the papers and ask for help, I'm sure people are unaware that help, vols, are still needed. A vanful from my church went when it happened and were treated badly. As if they were LOOTERS, up to no good . The name is on two sides and the back of the van. A blind man could not miss it. Good luck ! I haven't read any mention of the jones football players doing or giving for this cause.

Big Stone Gap will not be the same place it was since the EF1 Twister hit them. That changed the place for ever. The Twister took out some huge beautiful trees that will never be there again.
Clean up will take a long time to get done.
