What's sad is that people are taking the Ralph Stanley thread and making it about themselves and their political beliefs. Last time I checked, this thread was about Ralph, not you people.

A strange quirk of fate brought me to this topix.I hadn't used this name for awhile, and when it came up with Clintwood,I thought I'd check it out.I was reading the post about Ralph Stanley, and was appalled at how he was being verbally bashed! It had a political overture to it,too.I don't hate all people that are associated with Republicans in the global realm..I still keep up with CBN,Liberty University, and don't hate/boycott Clint Eastwood movies, etc. There's enough hate in the world without political factions taking up arms against each other.I have encountered vicious internet arguments online, and it's amazing the hate you encounter!People have their own political viewpoints and always will.Nobody can force me to see it their way,and I know I couldn't force them to see it my way! I live in Tazewell County,by the way.

Heres my 2 cents on the Stanley legend. Ralph is a legend and has been a good entertainer for many years but his brother Carter had more talent in his left nut than Ralph 1 and 2 combined has ever had. Carter was a hell of an entertainer and Ralph rode on his coat tail with his high pitced voice {somewhere between a woman and a queer} and somehow he fit into bluegrass music. After Carter died Ralph found a way to go on,discovering some of the biggest country singers of today. Ralph 2 sucks. He cant sing worth a damn and he never will. But he can ride on the Stanley name and make a good living while standing inhis dead uncle Carters and his dad Ralph shadow. So Carter Stanley was a real entertainer,Ralph Stanly is ok,and Ralph 2 is a f!!king joke.

Uh.. wild guess here... Because Obama has been in office for over 3 years and because his party (the democrats) were in complete control of Washington for the first two of those years? It's either that or the fact that Obama has rung up the worst deficit in this nation's history. One can only point at his predecessor for so long before it becomes evident that HE is also a failure.

Have you read a paper anytime in the last few months? the country was in a recession when obama came into office, he's had three years to help get things going, he's done the exact opposite. He's done everything in his power to cripple the coal industry and force us to be more dependent on foreign oil and imports, while putting our neighbors and families out of work. If that is not enough, I can't imagine what would be.

Obviously coal miners and Republicans are stupid. If your work has cut back and laid off, or maybe you've completely lost your job. It ain't Obamas fault. There hasn't been any Cap and Trade. We just opened a new power plant to replace the old antiquated plant. There was nearly no demand for coal last winter. China is mining more and more and using it themselves, so we are not shipping as much to them anymore.

Coal was overpriced for way too long. The market is adjusting to make up for low usage, low demand.. Powere plants are changing over to wood and gas to operate now becasue they can get it cheaper than coal with less harmful by-product. You stupid ass Republican coal miners need to get your heads out of your asses and stop believing everything the coal mongrels try to tell you. If y'all really gave a rat's ass you'd be mad at any politician that have sent our steel industry jobs overseas..just imagine if they were still here, we'd bee mining a shit load of metalurgical coal, and you wouldn't be on here pussy whining about Obama this and Obama that.

He's plenty smart enough to know we can't go cold turkey on coal, nor has he ever suggested it. He has on the other hand told us that we should try to be better stewards of this land and air than what we have been doing in the past. And we had better be preparing for the future, cause one day ...maybe not in our lifetime...it will by God run out and be no more. It takes balls to stand up and tell us the truth. sometimes the truth hurts. So quit your blame f*cking game and do something positive.

Ralph Stanley has killed any other type of music from coming out of Dickenson Co except bluegrass. Ralph Jr. is about as much a no talent as I've ever heard. Hank III...better than his daddy ever thought about being.

Yeah, but one of the best banjo players in music ... even at his age. On par with Scruggs.

Apparently you have not heard of the Utility MACT rule. You will, it will be too late by the time you wake up to reality, but that's ok, you'll suffer with everyone else cause of your damn ignorant obama and his anti American policies that have and are ending our nation.

Everyone else is giving their opinion. I love Ralph's music and think his politics sucks but I have the ability to separate the two, music and politics. I don't like none of your Obama's socialism but it ain't just Obama. I don't like none of the politics of the ASP, American Socialist Party, which most call the Democrat party. I don't like no kind of socialism be it from DC, the Kremlin, Ha Noi, Beijing or anywhere in the world. I don't like Canadian socialism and at least the Canadian Supreme Court had sense enough to render Canadian healthcare unconstitutional. Kudos to the Supreme Court of Canada. Even though Ralph's politics are from the 19th and 20th centuries, Democrat versus Republicans, mine is the 21st century politics of American Constitutionalism versus socialism.
he is rude

ralph stanley is rude and and filthy. When he is in the grocery store going up the isle that you are in and you are looking at an item on the shelf or reaching to get an item off the shelf. you have to move out of his way because he will run you over with his buggy. I have said hi to him and he just looks at you like you are trash. I saw him and his wife in one of the stores that serves food eating and he is nastier than a bunch of kids. Food all over the floor and table. They will leave their cups and forks on the table. The cashier asked him how he was doing and how his food was and he turned his back on her, his wife said she enjoyed her food. He is just plain rude and thinks everyone should bow down to him as he goes by.

What does rudeness have to do with ability to do anything? I have talked to people from Tennessee including one of Lester Flatt's cousins from White County and a portion of them said Lester was arrogant. What does all this have to do with their music talent? One of the most arrogant people, mean to his band was Jimmy Martin but he had talent. My wife has a brother who is very ignorant, rude and nosy but we still go around him. When he asks something personal, I tell him none of your business. the title reads still singing, touring, reeling in honours, not restaurant habits. You need to be thankful there aren't any rude or arrogant people in your family.
