It's a bad area of town.
Also, looks like the school heads are not managing their school effectively. They should be replaced.
You don't know what you're talking about. Most students are upper middle class and very respectable. As for the administration at the school, they're doing great, considering. Since when has it become the school's responsibility to raise our children?
Maybe you shouldn't put your two cents in if you don't really know anything about what's going on!

Kids can pray all day in school. ALL day long. Just like you can in your car, or at work. Prayer does not have to be mandatory or out loud for each person to benefit.
AMEN!! That's just exactly the advice I gave my daughter that attends Deland Middle School.

Oh really? It's no God and Jesus is the issue? What about Chinese and other Asian schools where there is strong discipline and a mission to do your best in academics but no mention of Jesus? I mean, seriously, don't try to impose your own faith on this issue: it's far larger than faith. Whether a kid is Christian, Jewish, or Taoist he or she deserves a productive school atmospher where learning is mandated and all students can thrive.
I agree. I don't think putting God back into schools will solve the problem. People actually rasing their children in the first place will solve the problem. Raise your children in whatever faith you believe in and raise them to be good people in general and so many of these issues would disappear.

Exactly right, but kids today do not respect their parents. I am roughly rthe same age as you, and when I got outer control all my mother had to say is wait to your dad gets home. Well, that shut me right up, because I new I would get a beating. Parents today teach their kids to be rude, they feel they will get further in life with an attitude. I think not.
<quoted text>
I think a big part of the reason kids don't respect their parents now is because the parents wait too late to start commanding respect. In the waiting room of a hospital, I saw a girl around 6 years old slap her mother in the face. Her mother basically ignored her. Parents have to raise their children right from the beginning, not once they turn a certain age.

May be. But taking Him out surely hasn't helped.

The discipline at this school is horrendous. The administrators do not support the teachers, and the teachers do not work together to support one another. It is a crime in itself that good kids have to be subjected to having their education stolen from them. If students would tell their parents what goes on in the classrooms, maybe it would put some heat on the principal to take his role seriously. Maybe he needs to send his daughter to his own school.All students at Deland need to follow the same discipline plan, and no one group of students in any special program should have different consequences from the general student population.A very close look at this school needs to be taken. Why is the teacher turn over so high, and why do the very best of the best teachers have to leave?

You're exactly right. The administrator in charge of 6th grade last year had closed eyes. The 7th and 8th grade administrators are professional and effective.Some of the teachers in this school need to learn to work cooperatively, not for their own benefit of having the students as their buddies. The district needs to make several surprise visits to this school. It is not under contro. The kids are in control.

What are you referring to? You're comment has nothing to do with the problem at hand.I got my children out of there and I pray for the rest. I do believe the kids did report the situation, and I believe nothing was done. The troublemakers are shielded at this school.We need to look at what's wrong when kids go so far off the deep end when they have asked for help. We need to look at who was told and why nothing was done. There is one problem with this situation.

We all want to be safe, and when we send our children to school we expect that they will be safe there.

Everyone in hear has no idea whats going on in society! I go to highschool in the deland area and I met the kids on whitch we are all talking about. No one listens to whats going around them. While these kids are suffering the kids who caused this are haveing nothing done to them.

I hate high school, and i agree shooting it up is the worst idea and will solve nothing. Get rid of school, everyone pack your bags bec your going to the military. THAT is the only way it will stop.
