When folks make absurd statements, its worth pointing them out as such.

You could have fooled me. And the pettiness is all yours. Let's keep this about bobcats and not focused on who lives where and making petty snide and ignorant generalizations, mmkay? Have a great day!

I think that perhaps it is just a very large cat, and not a BobCat!
hahaha! Could be! They're shooting cows & lizards in Florida, thinking they're a threat to society. This might just be an overfed house cat!

And I simply responded to your rather absurd post. That you are continuing a totally irrelevant tangent to this discussion tells me all I need to know. You seem obsessed with who lives where, and what opinions they are allowed to express, and making flip, petty comments. FYI, this thread is about bobcats near Windermere.
Perhaps someone can chime in with some more irrelevant, spiteful comments about the 'attitudes' of people in Casey Key, Coral Gables, Star Island, or Sewall's Point?
Obsession with who lives where? Bah. The comment was made about someone with "more money than brains".... most of us knew what that comment implied.

Quit lickin the chemicals off that foreign produce, would ya?

Yeah, I'm sick of those people with more money than brains in Longwood complaining about bears in their garbage cans, too. Rich people are SO stupid.

I live in the Lakes of Windermere subdivision and a bobcat attacked my kitty cat last night. The bobcat jumped through the fence killing my lovelly kitty. I called the police because I was scared with the size of the animal. Police said it was a coyote but I am sure it was either a panther or a bobcat. Something needs to be done in this area before this animal starts attacking children.

yeah... panthers and bobcats are so close in size that they are easily confused... i once confused my chihuahua with my st bernard. that's when i got glasses and learned the difference.

If either one of them (a Bobcat or a Panther) have attacked your pet or your kid, I am sure you would not be so sarcastic.
At 1:00 AM, what I saw was an animal with my kitty cat in its mouth jumping through my fence and that was very paintful to me to see that.
I made my comment concerning about the possibility of these animals attack not just pets but also kids.

Wait now... I don't live anywhere near you, but I know about the attacks in your area. You should have known as well. What the heck was your "lovely kitty" doing out in the yard?

Sheesh people... Toss common sense out the window, and then act surprised when something like this happens.

It's really too bad your cat is gone... but again - SHEESH!

Sarcastic as I may be... catch a clue about what you are talking about before you make such comments. There is a large difference in size between a panther and a bobcat. A grown bobcat can weigh between 20 to 30 pounds which is a long way from the 135 to 155 pounds for a Florida Panther. This is something you may want to think about to help get a grip on the situation. It's more helpful if you have an accurate description of what you saw to help the police next time. Sorry about your cat, though.

A correction: bobcats are not "also called lynxes" -- they are two different species entirely, although they do looked somewhat similar (spotted coat, short tail, tufts of fur on tips of ears). North American lynxes don't come as far south as Florida. Bobcats are all over Florida. As more and more of Florida gets developed, bobcats have less room. Unless it is rabid, a bobcat is extremely unlikely to attack a human. As far as preying on pets, I doubt a pet would be a bobcat's first choice but -- if it's hungry -- yes, it might attack a pet. Still, overall, I believe a bobcat would prefer to stay as far away from humans as possible.
There are 4 cats in the lynx genus. This is one of them. I spent a few hours looking at bobcats and ocelots today for some unknown reason (how I ended up here) and went back to my source to double check the info I post before I went and said it. There has been some difficulty in how to classify lynxes as a whole, not just the bobcat.

We also have a bobcat living in the conservation area. We thought it had left (or perhaps there are more), but it came back less than two weeks ago. And yesterday a coyote was indeed spotted -- we originally thought it was a neighbor's dog sunning himself, but when we looked closer thought it looked like a wolf (not likely in FL). So be that as it may, it is indeed likely a coyote. Kinda neat, but scary that they're back there. Gina, I'm sorry for your kitty loss -- don't know what I'd do if that happened to our dogs or cat.

I live off Moss Park Rd just east of the 417 and have seen both bobcat and coyote. I even have a picture of the coyote.

Poor little bobcat. Can't believe the news coverage doesn't attempt to get to the bottom as to why this beautiful animal can't be re-released in a remote area somewhere.

I saw a bobcat, I am 100% certain, in my yard at 4:30pm today. My husband saw the same bobcat two weeks ago very close to our yard. This is not a domestic or feral cat. We believe it is a cub. Just thought those who have small pets or small children that play outside may want to know. We live close to Pine Hills, Windermere, Ocoee, Winter Garden, and Orlando. Just want everyone to be safe.
Any advice on how to keep children and pets safe?
Love to all.
