We went through Apollo Beach recently to look for a home. Some of the area is disturbing and some of the area is quite beautiful. Does anyone have any comments about what living in Apollo Beach is really like. All comments welcome. Thanks.

It is not a bad place. Where were you looking specifically? If you live in one of the developments then you are perfectly fine. It does have a small town feel.

This is a lovely place to live, if you are a right wing, Rush Limbaugh loving close minded person. Here, tube tops are still fashionable and Brandon, the closest shopping mecca, it is a safe haven for all the bottom rung of chain restaurants and third tier mall stores. Not to mention the many pawn shops and Amscot Financial store fronts, both of which prey on hard working people living week to week.

Be sure to check out all the many and varied *deed restricted* communities in the area. Maybe you are the right color and religion to live in one of them.

We were brought here for a job, we had no idea what this area was like. Had we known, we would not have come here. There is always work at any McDonald's, after all and you do not have to live south of Tampa to work there.

I lived in Apollo Beach back in the early 80's, didn't think much of it then. But maybe things have changed for the better in the last 31 years.

Wow...I think it's a pretty cool place. Not yet blown out by big business...I'm sure it's coming though. but I haven't seen anything mentioned above. You can get a house for a reasonable price on the water with a pool. Look for that elsewhere and...well, you won't find it. I can think of crummier places to live thats for sure!

Typical hate talk from the greedy left wingers..Apollo Beach is a nice place considering Finding a safe home for a family is impossible in lets say St Pete where you will get robbed at gun point after 10 P.M.,Tampa your wife or daughter will get followed by some non english speaking goof most likely here illegally and in Clearwater well...A lot of the same..I wont even bring up Bradenton and Palmghetto..Those are well known. If you live in a gated community don't even reply to my comment..I live in the real world.

My wife and I looked at house on Chipaway Dr. to buy for or retirement home. Being from NY we wanted to get away from cold weather but the house seemed to be made of junk sitting on a man made runway out into the water with older looking boats setting around. Opted for Flaggler beach on other side of state.

I think Apollo Beach is a great place to live if you love being near the city and the entertainment that it brings, but then have a nice safe quiet place to retreat to. It takes me 15 minutes to get to Ybor City and 18 minutes to get to channel side Tampa which both have great restaurants, bars, and shops. Brandon which has the ever so large Brandon mall is just 10 minutes away. So if the aforementioned driving is too much for you which is preposterous, then get a hybrid for crying out loud. The people in Apollo Beach are some of the friendliest and most hospitable people I've met in Florida and the town has a small town feel. Keep in mind it's also a boaters community, so there are a lot of water lovers and fisherman. Circles restaurant and tiki bar in Apollo Beach has some of the best food around and is always playing live music. The only thing that needs to happen if it's going to become a better place to live for growth and home values is is to shut down the dang power plant. Although now it is supposedly the cleanest plant in the US after their cleanup provisions (I wonder if this is true), it is still an eye sore.

I am being considered for a job in Apollo and would like to know a good area to look for a house. Is it a safe place to live? Are there nice beaches nearby? I don't mind driving to go out to eat but how far is shopping and restaurants....and good swimming beaches?

Sounds like a nice place to live. You can move in with your messiah, Barack Obama and enjoy the decline and fall.

Please ask for a transfer, this is my home your bashing. I love it here and would never consider living anywhere else. The nice thing is I am within driving distance of whatever lifestyle I choose to do that day. Change your Attitude change your fortune. In fact just get the hell out with your negativity.
