NOW this is the most sensible thing I have heard from our city planners in the bay area...! this is about 10 years past due! I hope I am around to see its introduction. The roads would not be able to keep up with an ever developing population... 275, 75 and veterans and oh yeah US 19! kudos to the brilliance behind this... not that i want to see my home town as a metropolis, but you can't stop progress.

WHAT HAVE THESE PEOPLE BEEN SMOKING? Where do they expect to get the funds to pay for these projects? Have they not heard that the County and State budgets are being cut?
Also, I wounder if teh funds spent on this dream project could not have been used to keep a cop or firefighter on duty.

yeah we are in a budget crunch but city-planning wise this makes sense... we have needed for years... doesn't matter if it is the silly ammendment one crunch or the .com boom it should have already been in the works.

Just think of the many ways a ferry system could enhance the quality of life! We like to gather in downtown St. Pete for drinks and dinner. Imagine if we could then stroll over to the St. Pete Pier and board a ferry to downtown Tampa...say Channelside, to take in a concert or a game at the Forum. We could go out clubbing and then catch a later ferry home to St. Pete. No more drinking and driving. If the much smaller college town of Gainesville to the north has the Florida Jitney to take people down to City Walk all day every day, so people can party safely in Orlando, one has to wonder, why can't Tampa get its act together? There Jitneys operate 24 hours a day. It comes down to priorities. Mass Transit TODAY! Not some grandiose plan twenty years in the making. Thank you.

I agree that we need a better mass transit system, but to piggyback the rail portion on CSX is not really a good idea. I think a dedicated light rail system of the same routes would bring a larger benefit. Just look what happened to the Trolley in Tampa, and that is only crossing CSX, not riding on.
