Many of you already know the damage that Walmart has caused, when it infiltrates a town (if not, please read "In Sam We Trust" by Bob Ortega).
For all those intersted in protesting the PROPOSED incoming Walmart/Sam's Club, the The Morrisville Planning & Zoning Board is scheduled to continue its review of the Shiloh Crossing project, at its meeting on March 9th (6:00 PM, Morrisville Town Hall Board Room).

I have read reports and heard news stories on what Wal-mart/Sam's club do. I see that Wal-mart brings globalization to our door step. Wal-mart is not forcing you to shop in wal-mart and so wal-mart alone is not doing anything. It is the wal-mart and people who shop at wal-mart are pushing an american lifestyle towards the lifestyle of chinese (3rd world) peasant. Stopping wal-mart at one place will not solve the issue but we should control our lifestyle so we do not need a lot of cheap stuff but work with little of that american stuff.

Correct comments! Plus Wal-mart is aided by the lack of enforcement of import quotas dealing with China. China circumvents these quotas by utilizing third world countries as shipping nations while the billing is thru a third party. Ultimately the American shopper and voter is responsible for the success of Wal-mart/import and the demise of the manufacturing base in the US. For an supposedly educated nation, citizens continue to support politicans that support increases in minimum wages, taxes and social programs especially at state levels. Couple that with cheap imports is it not logical that US companies have cut and run to third world counties ?What would happen if China cut off all imports to the US ? How long would it take to gear up the textile industry in NC as an example. History does indeed repeat itself.

Well I have one thing to say about this, wal-mart is an American company, the help America's economy when we shop there. They also help the community in many ways. If you don't like Wal-mart then don't shop there, but don't slow down America's economy by trying to tear down an American Company. Those who say they import stuff, which is true, but what kind of car are you driving, is it foriegn? If it is then don't complain.

I was raised in a small town in VA. Here our stores were owned by local people. The prices were so high that only the very well to do could afford to shop there. Others like myself had the only choice of a local Dollar Store. The other option was to drive an hour and a half to another town with a K-Mart or a Goody's. When Wal-Mart came to my home town I was so glad to see all the local business start reducing their prices. This is something they should have done to begin with.

Wal-mart may be an "American" company, but they long ago lost their "Made in the USA" only product line. That's when shopping at Wal-mart was a positive. Now it's just foreign junk. But, yes, it is up to the individual shopper.

This still does not make it a good fit for Morrisville. The Town doesn't have the infrastructure (roads, police, fire) to support it. As anyone who has to drive through on a daily basis knows, the traffic in Morrisville is HORRIBLE (and that is putting it nicely). The Town leaders need to get off their behinds and move forward on road improvements before any add'l development is approved. BTW, the citizens of Morrisville voted (over 80%) to get bonds to improve the roads over 2 years ago! Has anyone seen any real improvement? No? I didn't think so.

It sounds very noble to say keep out the big corporation so the mom and pop businesses may survive. Guess what. Most of them will still (those who sell similar products as Wal-Mart) suffer even if Wal-Mart doesn't come to Holly Springs. This is because most of us will drive to either Cary or Fuquay to go shopping, giving those towns plenty of revenue while Holly Springs suffers economically. I personally do not like globalization, but we can't avoid it as long as there are free trade agreements. Those who don't participate in it go out of business (large corporations). Every US car, farm tractor, or piece of construction equipment has components imported from over seas (look under your hood). There is no such thing as made in the USA (100%).

Those who support Wal-Mart should watch the documentary film Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price. Wal-Mart abuses it's employees and supports crimes against humanity by using sweat shop labor in third world countries to maximize its profits. Most of you supporters won't bother to watch this because you like shopping there and saving a few bucks and don't want a moral dilemma on your hands. The few that do watch it will either say yeah that's bad, and go on living the same way they have been, or say "so what, lots of other companies do that too". That's right, and guess what, they're wrong too, but Wal-Mart epitomizes everything that is wrong with the American capitalist system right now, and every additional store they are allowed to open just makes the problem worse.

Come on folks. To suggest that Wal Mart as an American company contributes to the ecocnomy is myopic at best. The problems that Wal Mart helps to create are social by nature and begin with wage suppression. As evidenced in communities around the country, the poverty level of Wal Mart employees actually exceeds that of the communities that Wal Mart supports. For instance, the standard of living for a family of three is greater through welfare assistance than through gainful employment by Wal Mart. The strain that Wal Mart employees put on local Medicare programs alone creates substantial costs for community taxpayers. Yet, at the end of the day, the profit is exported from those communities and redistributed....the practice of wage suppression causes increased poverty, medical costs, reduced property values, anddecline in general health of communities across the country. Wal Mart epitomizes the direction of corporate greed in this country by exploiting its' working class. Do your research before you laud the benefits of your local superstore.

Another sad aspect to this is most of the junk is coming from a country that has doubled it's military spending yearly. Our defense dept. produces a yearly report that shows most of that growth is spent directly in a specific way to combat our own military. What's even sadder is the truth is much worse as both of the last administrations totally revise the report so as to not "upset" them! I wonder with the spending habits we have today if more of our dollars are going to support their military than the portion of our taxes that goes to our own troops?

Hey. Does anyone know what the Grand Opening date of the Morrisville WalMart is? You protestor types always know that stuff. I am tired of driving all the way to Brier Creek to find superior selection and prices that Wal Mart offers. To you conspiracy theorists...that is the reason that Walmart is sucessful you know....because in a free market, people choose to shop there. Let me know if anyone knows. And if anyone is protesting at the opening, I will be sure to smile at you as I walk in to shop!

I talked to the manager of the Sam's Club on Harrison Avenue the other day, and they are hoping for around October 15, but it may be later.

They will leave the Harrison Avenue Sam's Club open thru Christmas, then let it "inventory out."

So you believe it is better for these people to not have jobs at all? Give me a break! At least they are employed and are making some money. Better than unemployment, or welfare! Do you honestly believe WalMart and the world would be better if everyone working at WalMart made $40K plus a year. These jobs are small-time, easy, no-brainer jobs that require people without a degree to work.

We should make a law so that it is illegal to sell things for a profit. It is wrong that people want to profit by providing low price decent quality products. Who is Walmart to try and fill a need? Their prices are just too low. We don't want that, how morally wrong. We should not allow free markets for these selfish greedy capitalists to exist. Low price, what a joke. We are all hurt by this anti-American practice of giving the customer what they want. Just because Walmart is very good at what they do doesn't mean that someone else, who is less successful at filling the needs of the community, should suffer. I HATE LIBERTY. I HATE COMPETITION. I HATE SUCCESS. I don't want to have everything I want, when I want it at a price I can afford. Walmart must be forced to either raise their prices or should be forced out of town. >>>Anyone detect a hint of sarcasm. Come on, think through your conclusions. Walmart is bad? Is Walmart really bad, or is competition and success a good thing? They fill a need. If they didn't people would not shop there and they would not be successful. They are wildly successful and everyone loves to shop there. Evidently no one else was able to fill the need as well as Walmart. They should be praised for there success. Instead some puny self-loathing individuals bash Walmart. Why, because it takes effort to succeed. Those who don't find it easier to bash those who do succeed. Those who can not compete can either work for the company that is successful or they can figure out how to compete or they can find another occupation. Walmart has the same right to set up shop as does anyone else. America is about liberty, business and self-interest (profit). That creates competition and brings out the best in those who want to succeed and brings out the worst in those who don't, the moochers. Who are you?

Walmart should be protested!!!, You know, I am a disabled person, I tried my best to get a job with those rich ass scermys but they would not hire me. I wanted a job and a chance at life but the rich ass scermys at Walmart wouldn't give it to me!!!. I wanted a chance in order to prove my worthiness to society and I wanted to be a part of something, Rich ass scermys want to take from you, They're rotten, greedy SCUMBAG PIGS who can't get enough!!!. This country has done so much for them but they won't do jack for it, They're SCERMYS, Stupid people who wont help you out even if they knew it would help theirselves out!!!. All I know, I tried, I tried my best to get a job with that scermy Walmart, I tried, God knows I did, I went all the way through school for nothing!!!. But God will hold them accountable as I will explain later. Walmart makes hundreds of billions of Dollars a year yet they acted like they couldn't afford to pay me a measly $4.25 an hour (what the wages were when I applied for a job there) for my work, acted like they couldn't afford to give me and America a chance!. I thought you got a big tax break when you hired a disabled person. Apparently Walmart didn't need a tax break since they probably don't pay aney taxes Aneyway!. You know, I bet big Walmart depreciates their store buildings when they file their taxes they don't pay, modern buildings built with concrete and steel should go up in value, not down!. Since they cost more and more to build every year and concrete and steel does not wear out or deterorates.(I will note this one to the IRS) Perhaps the IRS needs to reevaluate how they value buildings. Aneyway, I know God Almighty has the final say-so in the matter, not me!!!. God is going to get those rich ass scermys good!!!. First off, rich ass scermys are going to Hell when they die and burn red hot forever, HAHAHAHAHA!!!. Buts that's not all they're going to get. See, God is going to send the Great Tribulation propheised in the Bible to this sin sick world in a few years. I keep a keen eye on the news and I know full well it is near and that things are falling apart!. I particularly pay attention to events in Europe, Syria etc. And I conclude that this world ain't long!. When the Great Tribulation finally does arrive it'll put a lot of rich ass scermys scooting!!!. It might just straighten a lot of them out, that is if they can be straightened out!. I can't wait for it to get here!!!. I ll laugh to the top of my lungs, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!. I know I will suffer but the rich ass scermys who would not hire me will suffer a lot more, it will be far worth it, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! . GOLD AND SILVER WILL BE WORTHLESS THEN, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA!!!!!!!.
