Other than Panera, I can only think of one - Pheasant Creek Coffee on 55. Where are the others?

Blue Rain does have WiFi, and it is free I believe. They also have the BEST COFFEE in the area! And they also make their frappes the right way, using real espresso, not a powder like all of the other coffeehouses.

Sorta weak? What kind of coffee did you try? We wish to promote coffee excellence "from seed to cup," which means highlighting the unique and best characteristics inherent in each of the coffees we offer. Therefore, you won't find anything that most would call a "dark-roast," characterized by the flavor of the roast overpowering the flavor of the coffee. If your filling your coffee with half-n-half and sugar then you are missing out on a great experience.

We love bringing in special micolots of truely amazing coffee. Unfortunately they do not last more then month. This is the last week for La Estrella, winner of the Cup of Excellence coffee from Colombia.

We do offer WiFi and the espresso machine is a custom built La Marzocco FB-70 Hybrid and is tempeture stable withing 1/2 a degree. Many of our baristas have competed in regional and national barista competitions.

It's thinking like that that made me stop going to Pheasant Creek - they are too uptight! They used to have signs telling you to order a latte if you want more than an ounce or two of cream. They post little "Mommy" notes everywhere - in the bathroom, by the cups - I am really surprised that they dont have a timer on the Internet that kicks you off if you havent spent at an $X:Y-Internet minutes ratio!!

We dont need some anal uptight people being holier-than-thou about the "coffee experience" we just want a REASONABLY PRICED cup of coffee that isnt burnt in a reasonably comfortable setting with laid back folk!!!

Mr. Toads in Cary at High House/Cary Pkwy is worth the drive - the staff is sweet, the regulars are friendly and they must have like 20 different beans that they roast on site in small batches.

Disclaimer: I am not on staff at Mr. Toads, I am just a guy who stops by there every couple of weeks and they're always glad to see me and remember my name and have time to chat. They have great pastries from a local pastry chef too!

I go to Pheasant Creek coffee several times a week, and do not find them uptight at all. It is a great place to sit and have a cup of coffee, or work on your PC with free internet.
I have seen the signs - but have not been offended.
People from the ice cream shop coming to the coffeehouse outdoor tables to sit and eat ice cream - getting the tables all sticky; Some people show up at the coffeehouse, buy a cup of coffee or latte and sit there most of the day refilling their cup all morning. Moms filling baby bottles with the milk put out for coffee. uptight? Signs were put up to try to stop these behaviours - Uptight? I don't think so.
Pheasant Creek offers coffee cuppings - where you get to try the different beans and talk about it with others; Free entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Games, puzzles and books for patrons - none of that would be offered if they were uptight.

I heard somewhere that this area had one of the largest concentrations of independent coffee houses in the US. Good for us!!!

Thanks Cody for the tip on Blue Rain - I went by there yesterday and I finally found baristas who knew what they were doing! Nice creamy foam on a mocha made with their own homemade chocolate sauce. mmmmmm ........:)

Been to Pheasant Creek and the coffee is great. Have no problem with any "attitude" either. Also been to the Blue Rain always get a great cup there too. There is only one in the area I'm not keen on I don't know the name but its by the Kroger off the Apex PeakWay and the construction of the Wake Med extension. Twice there and lousy. I don't mind from a coffee place an occasional "ok" cup but lousy .. sorry go sell koolaid.

DontStress you must have a nice 9-5 white collar job somewhere. Regarding the "mommy notes" post about Pheasant Creek...everything costs money people. Folks in Apex LOVE free stuff and seem to forget that small business owners actually have to PAY for the products they sell.

Sometimes we forget that behind every small business is an actual person that feeds their family with the profit(?) they make. YOU don't work for free do you? Taking milk for your kid or sitting there all day taking free refills is literally like taking money out of the owner's pocket. Most places won't even give you free refills! No, I don't own or work for Pheasant Creek.

I won't go there based on your description. I'm tired of the "little mommy" additude toward Full Grown Adults from anywhere. It's a 'control freak' mentality. I just want good coffee and thats it. Do they charge more for the Nagging?

Maggie Higgins wow totally laughing out loud. Wanting to be an adult and worried about being controlled and you let some anonymous person here set your opinion of a place! Go try something out first for yourself and make up your own mind -- you might find out it's a totally refreshing experience.

I see no contradiction in Maggie's statement. Many of us adults take the advice of others rather than experience something themselves; such as
* movie reviews
* book reviews
* restaurant reviews
* don't sit on public toilet seats
...

Some reviews are spot on, some are yukky. So be it.

Everyone have FUN!

I go to the Daily Perk in Cary on Lake Pine off of 64. I will go to Leapin' Lizards on Sunday at Western Wake Med. because they are the only ones open. I am a bit of a picky coffee drinker and the Daily Perk has hands down the best coffee in the triangle. Both places use organically grown coffee and do not use pods....maybe basic and fresh is best? Pheasant Creek and Starbucks both taste dry and old/stale.
