Remember Florida's argument against Georgia when you hear Jacksonville's argument against plans to take St. Johns River water by central Florida. We are not serious about conservation and neither is Georgia. Have we heard their plan to make better use of the water that nature provides or will it be business as usual with degradation of the natural world. Better yet, what as an individual are you willing to do to conserve. No yard perhaps? We ourselves are the problem and have the leaders we deserve.

Some FACTS on desalinisation:

Israel currently produces their water from desalinisation at $0.53 per cubic meter. Singapore is at $0.49.

There's 264 gallons in a cubic meter.
My current KUA bill has irrigation at $0.46 per cubic meter. Frankly, a few choicely placed nuke plants with combined cycle generation would produce more than enough power to desalinize millions of gallons of seawater at competitive pricing....and ALSO produce extra power.

The math makes sense.

We shouldn't be wasting the time to squabble over this. We need power. They need power. We both need water. But we've got better access to it than they do.

What we lose in water could be replaced by the sea....and we could even sell power north to offset the costs of the plant.

I agree...I have long since said we should use desalinization plants for water....Our troops in Iraq are drinking desalinized water from Guantanamo Bay. We really will have no choice anyway, their won't be enough water to go around in the future so we might as well start figuring this out now.......
