It could have been put in a place where it didn't stick out so much. It makes the whole park look trashy! You have a nice fountain, a gazebo, then BAM a trashy looking roll of life savers. BAD PLACEMENT INDEED!

I don't think it looks trashy at all. I think it looks unique and a little quirky, and I love its placement.

It's a piece of public art that is as historic and locally meaningful as it is silly and fun.

Last time i checked it was put there long before the fountain or the gazebo so maybe they should have found better placements for those things. Is there anytging in gouverneur that you people wont find to complain about? Its really sad there are so many negative people in our happy little town!!

It is a part of the history here. The people on here make me laugh, complain about everything. LOL
Happy little town, As a matter of fact it is if you are a good person. If you were normal and had jobs and friends you would like it too. Drop the crack pipe, put out the blunt and flush the pills and you will see. Never mind you can't do that so just keep doing drugs and stealing so you will be gone quicker (jail or dead).

See someone else thinks its a happt little town besides me! And thats probablly because we stay out of trouble drugs and drama and work and raise our families like we aresupposed to do and it makes it a happy little town to live in maybe you should try it and you might like it too!

I think it's ridiculous. It misses it's intended target of identifying our village with the candy's inventor and instead makes us look weird, tacky and cheap. It simply confuses passer's by. It needs to go. Surely there's a classier way to reference the village's relation to Lifesavers.

Sure there is a better way. We could have all the welfare queens hang out on the corner waving at everyone.

What makes Gouverneur "trashy looking" and an "eye sore" are all the little punks are drug addicted kids roaming the streets at all hours. What makes Gouverneur "trashy looking" and an "eye sore" is a downtown Main St. with no retail business to speak of on it. Insurance offices, law offices and real estate offices. What else? Kinney's, Brown's, Julie's and a convenience store. That's it for lower Main St. And you know what REALLY makes Gouverneur "trashy looking" and an "eye sore"? This forum and around 80% of the people who post here. Grow the f@#$ up. Get an education and then maybe you'll have a chance at a job. Do something productive, not just reproductive. And finally, mind your own business. People living in glass houses and all that.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous arguments on this forum and thatís saying a lot for TOPIX. Setting aside that fact that you failed to mention several other businesses downtown, your intent was to disparage main-street by describing what an eyesore it was. So you go on to support your point by describing several long standing, successful businesses that have served the community well. Thanks for the chuckle, dummy. Youíre the gem in these forums who think youíre different than the nitwits the remainder of your rant went on to cut down. And that is entertainment. Itís pure entertainment.

LOL. Get a grip. I'm in no way disparaging the retail businesses that ARE located on the 3 block strip along Main St. from Clinton to Rock Island, I'm disparaging the fact that there aren't MORE of them there.

Please learn to read.

So, you want main street to be loaded with retail business that cater to a population that can't support them? You my friend are an economical development genius.
If we only had more dummies like you all of our problems would be solved.

The lack of a thriving downtown retail district is INDICATIVE of the unhealthy state of the local economy, not the other way around. There are many reasons for this, among them economical, social and political. Do you need the whole concept of economics explained to you line by line, or can you possibly use a little deductive reasoning to see where this is headed? So far, you're batting 0 for 2.

I mean really, Jacky, are you honestly that dense, or are you just playing devil's advocate, albeit badly?
