I was in Potsdam yesterday and noticed at least 3 locations that had toilets with fake flowers sticking out of them....that and strangely painted buildings among other things. What's up with that? Can anyone enlighten me here? Hope what ever it is doesn't spread to gouverneur .

You must either be new to the area or blind as a bat. Those things hae been there for at least 5 years if not longer.

I think its comical, he did it because the town would not let him sell his property to a business to build a store. The village took him to court to force the removal and lost.

This is my understanding as well. I have no official source on this, just various explanations from other people in the community, but most of the explanations line up.

From what I've heard, he wanted to sell his land to Dunkin' Donuts, but the village (or the town maybe?) wouldn't allow the commercial use of his residential-zoned land. He lives directly across the street from a gas station in front of his house, and directly across another street from a gas station beside his house, so the "residential zoning" argument seemed a bit dumb.

When the village (again, or town maybe) wouldn't budge on the zoning, he decided that if he couldn't sell to Dunkin' Donuts, he'd instead build himself an eyesore even uglier than a donut shop. And so you get an orange and pink garage with urinals, toilets, a few rows of corn, painted plastic turtles, and dead flowers all over the yard instead of a donut shop.

And Dunkin ended up building a donut shop a few hundred yards down the road anyway.

. You r pretty much right there is a little more to the story. See he couldn't sell but a member is the zoning bored got his place where the donut shop is now zoned for business when it was zoned for resident and made a pretty penny so Robar for pissed ( don't blame him) and did the toilet thing Robards was approached by sunken donuts they wanted his spot then ford homes in and made it impossible. Pretty shitty I do say myself
