Bubba Franks and Lane Perrin were only decent for their speed, they lacked heart, discipline, and yes coaching. However drugs and alcohol were more important for both.

now if ur gonna bring up the football all tough team. zack rosenthol, clay mollenkoph, johnny cole, billy harper, donald pritchet, david swift, preston taylor, larry linn, bj janoe, john jones, harry taylor. now them boys wer tuff. they played hard and never gave less than a 110 percent every time they stepped on the field practice or a game. they went undefeated from 7th grade to 9th and cudda went alot farther if they wudda stayd together.
I can name 1 person who is more tough and cared about football more than most of these guys, but didn't get to prove it due to cheap shots by his own teammates, one of whom is named in this previous post. As for Zack, Donald, and Preston yes they played very hard and gave 100 percent, however the rest of them are barely even remembered by kids to this day; atleast for atheltic reasons.

remembered or not they all wer monsters on the field. they all played extremely hard. billy and johnny wer runnin backs that cud 30 or forty yards every time they touch the ball. bj, john, jeremy, harry, and larry wer startin offensive line that completely dominated the line. so yes donald, preston, and zack did give a 110 every time, 3 guys cant win a football game. them guys knew that and they never single one player out. they played and worked as a team. they all knew no matter what was goin on, when they stepped on the feild, they left their personal lifes in the locker room. when they was on they field, they seemed as if they wer all the family any of them had. the wer all loyal to the team. coach martin and coach hatcher work them hard and built them right. the 98 freshman football team (key word team) wer all extremely tough. i know this thred is for athlete not team. but to be a good athlete, you have to know, respect, back, and support ur teammates. so in my book, all of the 98 freshmen football team are some of the best athletes to come out of antlers.

Although Jarrod Truett coached in Antlers, he did not go to school in Antlers.

For the best basketball team, i would have to say the Graduates of 1998. i played on the year 2000 team, it had some good players but we had nothing compared to what the team of 98 had. We had shooters but all were about themselves. You say John Willeford, i say no. I know it really isnt a big deal to anyone but how many district championships did they win, they won none. If Jarius Martin is figured in to being one of the best basketball players to, im sorry, but i strongly disagree with that one. His stats at the 3's didnt even make the 30% mark his senior year. More likely even shot us out of the games we should've won. The reason he got most of his points was because his teammates pushed back the defense or he made them on a fast break. I know this doesnt even come into play at all but i think the best basketball coach was Patrick Brown. I played for him to and i tell you what, he was one of the toughest coaches i ever had. Even though it was rough to play for him, i respected him. So to the team of 1998 and its coaches heres to you.

best basketball team was the womens team in 1968..they made it to state..no doubt about it!!! and Bette Tom was the best basketball player...man or woman...she would have knocked the hell out of the boys I have seen that have played for Antlers in the last 13-14 years...

I think this new kid from Texas that I occassionally see at the practices is an INCREDIBLE athlete. Even though he may kid around sometimes (from what I saw at the football field) he is a very good football player and has probably some of the best natural talent I've seen in a while. And WOW he is even better on the baseball field! Too bad he has to play junior varsity his first year because he would help the varsity out a great deal! It must be in the water in Texas but I would watch out for him next year definitely! He's got a good head on his shoulders and if I'm not mistaken, he is ridiculous on the drums also. I don't know his name but he will be a great attribute to any team he participates on.

I remember two really good baseball players in the early 90's. Darin Young and Jason Manous (sp?) made all state honorable mention. They both pitched but made honorable mention at shortstop and 1st base respectively.

I'll tell you this Edmond. Since you were so good, why dont you go ahead and tell us your stats and your name you coward. I played around the same time as you, and also had an oppurtunity to play with some of these guys you mentioned. In 2002 Antlers was beaten out in Regionals due to some bad breaks and calls. From what I remember, everyone on those teams from 2000-2003 had a really good time playing with each other and competeing in the MC-6. Willeford was maybe one of the best pure shooters to ever come through Antlers. Martin was just an athlete that did what he had to do to keep his team in games. Whether it was drive, shoot,or pass. So please give your contributions to the forum, since you were so good. I will give you this much, Brown was a great coach.

Wow! I am speechless after reading all of these posts. Its sad that some people really have no clue about Antlers Athletics. For instance, Herman Johnson and Monty Martin's team went 9-1 their Sr year and were beaten in the district championship by 3 pts by Broken Bow, the eventual state champs. Back then only 1 team from each district made the playoffs, not 4. That alone should count for something. The girls bball team from 2000-2001 was stout and almost made the state tourney. Awesome group of girls with Price leading the way. Its just amazing to me some of the people being left out on this list. Monty Walton, Monty Martin especially(single game scoring record and seasonal) Brian Young, Buddy Puddy, Shayla Martin, T,David Taylor,Wayman, and many more. Also the football team of 2001. 8-2, was beat out by eventual State Runner up Eufala. Quite honestly, there hasnt been any athletes, other than the girls softball program that has produced anyone even close to the older names mentioned. The younger Martin kid has a chance. 6-4 220 and can dominate in all three. Sad thing is that he will probobably get criticized for being a ball hog or selfish, bc he shoots to much or doesnt care about his teammates! Give me a break. Some of you goons need to realize the difference between doing what you have to do to give your team a chance to win and being selfish. With that said, I wish all of the Athletics the best of luck and hope to see the Bearcats have success in every sport this year. The kids need it and so does the town.

The Antlers Bearcats team of 1973 with Herman Johnson and Monte Martin..lost to Broken Bow in regular season game during a torrential rain storm that had people walking in water up to their ankles on the sidelines. Antlers lost to Broken Bow 20-7 on the Antlers field. The Bearcats girls basketball team in 2000-2001 had a lot of talent but underachieved...they should have won the MC 6 tourney and played their way into the state tourney. They were one of the best girls teams I have ever seen come out of Antlers but no one on that team was as good as Bette Tom who played in 1968. The 68 team made it to state with Tom leading the way. I agree with you though I hope all the Antlers teams do well this year. Go Cats!!!

Well put Doc. Finally someone with some sense. Im sorry I was wrong about the score. I was told that it was 3 pts, and that Antlers played BBOW tougher than anyone in that year of 73. Antlers couldnt throw the ball due to the rain, and if it wouldve been dry, the Bearcats may have won that game. Bette Tom was awesome and so was that 68 squad. The girls team of 2000 was really good, but yes they underachieved. With the talent they had, they shouldve made a deep run into the state playoffs. Like I said, Its not that Antlers hasnt had good athletes, its just lately there havent been many. There have been some decent ones, but none that can compare with some of the names mentioned. Information: Wow thats a bold statement about Coach Hatcher and Coach Martin. All they did was coach about 25 years of football at both middle school and high school levels and never had a losing season. I believe both were assistants during the 80's at one time or another. As a matter of fact, I will bet my paycheck that if we had a poll of the best coaches in Antlers, they would win in a landslide. Smith and Plunkitt were good as well, but dont just trash the others. I can damn sure say that no other coaches can even come close to the impact that Martin and Hatcher had on their players. Those two men are still very well respected by the community and alumni.
